Lady Wolves Drop Doubleheader Against Lady Rangers

SENATOBIA – The Co-Lin Softball team returned to action on the road to face off against No. 4 Northwest Mississippi on Saturday, March 18. The Lady Rangers swept the Lady Wolves taking game one, 2-1, and game two, 7-1.

GAME ONE

The first game of the day was a pitcher's duel for majority of game as the starters for each team stranded every baserunner allowed in the first four innings.

The scoreless tie was broken in the top of the fifth by the Lady Wolves as they scored their only run of the game. Belle West (Byram) hit a one-out double and then scored on an RBI double by Josie Meggs (Kosciusko) making the score 1-0.

The Lady Rangers then scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth while taking advantage of an error by the Lady Wolves to take a 2-1 lead. The Lady Wolves then went three-up-and-three-down in the top of the seventh to seal the win for the Lady Rangers.

The Lady Wolves totaled three hits as Faith Kivett (Tallulah, LA), Belle West, and Josie Meggs had one hits each while Meggs led the Lady Wolves with one RBI.

Cara Biswell (Brandon) got the start for the Lady Wolves and moved to 2-1 with the loss pitching all six innings while allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.

GAME TWO

The second game of the day got off to a much different start as the Lady Rangers scored one run in the bottom of the first to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Lady Wolves responded with a single run in the top of the second to tie the game as Josie Meggs drew a leadoff walk, stole second, and then scored on an RBI single by Skyler Speights (Monticello) making the score, 1-1.

The Lady Rangers then took advantage of two Lady Wolves errors and scored five runs in the bottom of the third to take a 6-1 lead and then added their final run in the bottom of the sixth to increase their lead to 7-1.

The Lady Rangers allowed just two combined hits by the Lady Wolves from the third through seventh innings to seal the win and sweep.

The Lady Wolves totaled five hits as Faith Kivett, Maddie Weeks (Clinton), Belle West, Skyler Speights, and Abby Grace Richardson (Brookhaven) had one hit each. Speights led the Lady Wolves with one RBI.

Belle West got the start for the Lady Wolves and moved to 6-4 overall with the loss. West pitched 2.2 innings allowing six runs, two earned, on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Laney Waguespack (Des Allemands, LA) pitched 3.1 innings of relief allowing one earned run on three hits with one strikeout.

Co-Lin moves to 15-7 overall and will return to action hosting No. 5 Jones on Tuesday, March 21. First pitch between the Bobcats and the Lady Wolves is set for 4 p.m., at Lady Wolves Field in Wesson.
