Lady Wolves Blitz Lady Bulldogs in Sweep

GOODMAN – The Co-Lin Softball team took to the road to face off against Holmes in conference play on Saturday, April 13. The Lady Wolves swept the Lady Bulldogs using a nine-run inning to take game one, 12-1, and a four-run inning to take game two, 9-3.

GAME ONE

The Lady Wolves wasted no time putting a run on the board as Madison Moak (Brookhaven) crushed a 2-1 pitch over the left field fence for a leadoff solo home run giving the Lady Wolves a 1-0 lead. The Lady Bulldogs looked to respond in the bottom of the first as they loaded the bases with two outs, but a line out ended the inning and maintaining the lead for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves then increased their lead in the top of the third as Abby Grace Richardson (Brookhaven) drew a walk with one out, her second of four walks in game one, advanced to second on a groundout, and the scored on an RBI double by Zykeria Cole (Magee) giving the Lady Wolves a 2-0 lead. The Lady Bulldogs then got a two-out walk followed by back-to-back singles to cut the lead in half at 2-1 in the bottom half of the inning.

The Lady Wolves increased their lead with a single run in the top of the fifth as Moak hit a one-out triple to get the offense going. After Richardson was intentionally walked and stole second, Moak scored on a sacrifice fly by Kinley Ainsworth (Brandon) making the score, 3-1.

The Lady Wolves then exploded for nine runs on six hits as Taylor Efferson (Holden, LA) hit a leadoff single and then was replaced by Kat Case (Monticello) as a pinch runner. Emeri Warren (Sebastopol) followed with a single while later in the inning, Leia Phillips (Philadelphia) was hit-by-pitch to load the bases with one out. Olivia Banes then cleared the bases with a three-RBI double scoring Case, Warren, and Phillips making the score, 6-1. Moak then reached on an error during a bunt while Richardson was intentionally walked to load the bases once again for the Lady Wolves.

Ainsworth then drew a second consecutive walk scoring Banes while Moak and Richardson scored on a two-RBI double by Cole making the score, 9-1. After Emma Kate Fimiano (Petal) was brought in as a pinch runner, Maddie Bruner (Brandon) was brought in as a pinch hitter and hit a two-RBI double scoring Ainsworth and Fimiano. After Bruner advanced to third on a passed ball, she then scored on an RBI single by Warren giving the Lady Wolves a 12-1 lead.

The Lady Bulldogs were then retired in order in the bottom of the sixth ending the game and securing the 12-1 victory.

The Lady Wolves totaled 11 hits as Madison Moak led the way with three hits while Zykeria Cole and Emeri Warren had two hits apiece with Taylor Efferson, Maddie Bruner, Leia Phillips, and Olivia Banes adding one hit each. Cole and Banes led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with three apiece while Ainsworth and Bruner added two RBIs each with Moak and Warren having one RBI each.

Cara Biswell (Brandon) pitched a complete game and improved to 12-3 overall with the win while allowing one earned run on five hits with four walks and five strikeouts.

GAME TWO

The second game of the day once again saw the Lady Wolves get off to a quick scoring start as AG Richardson hit a leadoff single to start the game. Richardson was then forced out as Madison Moak reached on a fielder's choice. Moak then scored the first run of the game as Zykeria Cole reached on an error and advanced to second on the play making the score, 1-0.

Kinley Ainsworth then singled advancing Cole to third while Efferson drew a walk after Ainsworth stole second to load the bases with one out. Cole and Ainsworth then scored on a two-RBI single by Emeri Warren increasing the Lady Wolves lead to 3-0. Leia Phillips was then hit-by-pitch to load the bases for a second time while Efferson scored on a sacrifice fly by Olivia Banes making the score, 4-0.

The Lady Bulldogs then took advantage of a leadoff walk and an RBI single in the bottom of the first to score a run and cut the Lady Wolves lead down to 4-1. After a scoreless second inning, the Lady Wolves increased their lead with a pair of runs in the third as Cole hit a leadoff double to get the inning started.

Cole then scored as Ainsworth reached on an error and advanced to second on the play. Ainsworth advanced to third after a flyout and then scored on an RBI groundout by Warren making the score, 6-1. The Lady Bulldogs then got a leadoff double in the bottom of the third and later added their second run of the game cutting the lead down to 6-2.

The game remained 6-2 until the Lady Wolves added their final three runs in the top of the seventh as Richardson drew a leadoff walk. Moak then reached on an error on a bunt as Richardson advanced to third and Moak took second on the play. Richardson and Moak then scored on a two-RBI single by Cole making the score, 8-1, while Cole took second on the play. Avery Williams (Olive Branch) was then brought in as a pinch runner and advanced to third on a groundout. Williams then scored on an RBI double by Taylor Efferson increasing the Lady Wolves lead to 9-2.

The Lady Bulldogs then got a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh. Back-to-back groundouts scored the final run for the Lady Bulldogs while a pop out ended the game and secured the 9-3 victory and sweep for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled 11 hits as a team as AG Richardson, Zykeria Cole, and Emeri Warren had two hits apiece while Madison Moak, Kinley Ainsworth, Taylor Efferson, Olivia Banes, and Carson Hughey (Brookhaven) had one hit each. Warren led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with three, while Cole had two RBIs with Efferson and Banes adding one RBI each.

Emily Richarde (Lakeland, TN) pitched her first career complete game victory at Co-Lin improving to 5-0 overall. Richarde allowed three runs, all earned, on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Co-Lin improves to 31-3 overall, 18-1 in conference play, and will return to action hosting Southwest on Wednesday, April 17. First pitch between the Lady Bears and the Lady Wolves is set for 4 p.m., at Lady Wolves Field in Wesson.
