Lady Wolves fall to No. 9 JCJC 65-52

WESSON, Miss. – The Lady Wolves could not get many shots to fall Monday night as the No. 9 ranked Lady Bobcats of Jones County Junior College gave Co-Lin their first loss of the season. The loss moves the Lady Wolves 8-1, 0-1 on the year and moves JCJC to 5-1, 1-0.

"Tonight boiled down, to allowing them to make too many layups," said head coach Gwyn Young. "That was what we were hoping to take away from them, and we also could not execute against their zone defense. We need to fix some things before this upcoming Delgado game, and we need some players to step up."

The Lady Wolves never seemed to get the offense rolling Monday night as the No. 9 Lady Bobcats escaped Wesson with a MACJC South Division victory. Action through out the first quarter was balanced as the game was tied on four separate occasions, but the Lady Wolves shooting woes picked up in the second.

Co-Lin was only able to score seven points in the second after several unfortunate breaks on the offensive end of the floor. JCJC capitalized on these misses and went on a 12-3 run to finish out the first half. The run took the momentum from the Lady Wolves and gave JCJC a 31-22 lead going into the half.

In the third, T'Kyra Hicks got hot for the Lady Wolves, but JCJC traded baskets on the other end of the floor. Going into the fourth the Lady Bobcats still led by nine, 49-40.

The fourth quarter was all JCJC as the Lady Bobcats opened with a 16-2 run that lasted for five minutes and essentially pulled the game out of reach for the Lady Wolves.

Hicks led the Lady Wolves in scoring with 16 points. Kyeonia Harris and Alexandria Patton both netted 10 points each, and Brittany Rose rounded out the Lady Wolves top scorers with seven. Diamond Smith led the Lady Wolves on the boards with seven rebounds, while Nakeisha Holcomb, Karry Callahan, and Patton hauled in six apiece. Harris also led Co-Lin with four assists from the point guard position.

Alexis Tolefree led JCJC with 17 points on the night. Nique Cherry added another 15 and K.K. Tassin posted 11. Cherry also grabbed a team high 17 rebounds for JCJC for a double-double.

Co-Lin shot 25 percent (16-for-64) from the field, 21 percent (3-for-14) from the three-point line, and 85 percent (14-for-17) from the foul stripe. The Lady Bobcats finished the night shooting 39 percent (24-for-62) from the field, 16 percent (3-for-19) from beyond the arc, and 52 percent (14-for-27) from the free throw line.

The Lady Wolves are back in action Saturday, December 9 at 1 p.m. as Co-Lin hosts Delgado Community College. Watch the game live at colinathletics.com or listen live at WMJU 104.3 FM in Brookhaven.
