Lady Wolves come from behind to defeat Meridian

MERIDIAN, Miss. – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves trailed by as much as 16 Monday night, but rallied late and defeated Meridian 64-63. The exciting win moved the Lady Wolves to 19-3 on the year and 10-3 in the MACJC South Division. Co-Lin is back in Wesson on Thursday, February 22 as the Lady Wolves host the Pearl River Community College Lady Wildcats. The Lady Wolves struggle for most of the first half, as the Lady Eagles got several offensive rebounds and second chance baskets. Combine that with the Lady Wolves off night in shooting and Meridian leapt out in front. The Lady Eagles took a 14-point, 38-24, lead into intermission.

Co-Lin came out of the locker room a new team and quickly went on a 14-2 run led by sophomores Alexus Holt and T'Kyra Hicks. The sudden change brought Co-Lin within one, 43-42, with 3:38 remaining in the third. Action was back-and-forth for the final minutes of the period, but the Lady Wolves out scored Meridian 24-13 in the third.

In the fourth the Lady Wolves battled and rattled off 16 points. Hicks made several key shots and Holt continued to dominate the floor as the Lady Wolves escaped with a one-point, 64-63 win.

Holt led the Lady Wolves with 26 points and nine rebounds. She also posted five assists and a team high three steals. Hicks finished the night with 17 points and four assists. Kyeonia Harris led the Lady Wolves with 6 assists.

Shannon Tate led Meridian with 24 points and 16 rebounds, while Qiayon Bailey scored 19 and Rokila Wallace netted 11.

Co-Lin shot 39 percent (24-for-61) from the field, 32 percent (7-for-22) from the three-point line, and 90 percent (9-for-10) from the foul stripe. The Lady Eagles finished the night shooting 46 percent (26-for-57) from the field, 10 percent (1-for-10) from beyond the arc, and 50 percent (10-for-20) from the free throw line.
