Lady Wolves fall to 1-1 with road loss to LSU Eunice

EUNICE, La. - The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves lost their first game of the year on Thursday night as the LSU Eunice Lady Bengals ran away with an 85-75 victory. The loss moves Co-Lin to 1-1 on the year and improves the Lady Bengals to 2-1. Co-Lin is back in action on Monday, November 11 as the team hits the road again for Mississippi Delta Community College. 

The action was back-and-forth and very physical in the first quarter as the lead changed hands seven times between the Lady Wolves and Lady Bengals. At the first break, the Lady Wolves were up 19-16 as Camryn Davis rattled home a layup in the final seconds. 

The early moments of the second quarter were all Co-Lin as the team grew the lead to eight, 32-24, with a scoring burst led by TaMara Riley. However, the Lady Bengals came roaring back midway through the period as the team manufactured a 20-2 run over the final five minutes to build a 48-35 lead at the half. 

The Lady Bengals hung on to that lead in the third quarter as the team outpaced the Lady Wolves by two points, 17-15. The Lady Wolves refused to give in, and in the fourth, the team mounted a comeback with a late push led by Riley, Morgan McCray, Sha'Quandra Carter, and Jana Case. The late 9-2 run cut the Lady Bengals' lead to just six, 72-66, with 3:21 left to play. LSU Eunice quickly regained their footing and quickly made a layup and a mid-range jumper to pull away. The team would hang to the lead and secure the 85-75 win. 

Carter led the Lady Wolves with 19 points, while Riley added 18. Davis finished with 14 points, and McCray rounded out the top scorers with 11 points. Carter also led the team on the boards with nine rebounds, while Davis finished with eight. Ava Jones led LSU Eunice with 25 points, while Claralee Richard scored 22. Alona Washington rounded out the top performers for the Lady Bengals with 16 points, the next best scorer posted just six points. 

Co-Lin shot 36 percent (22-of-62) from the floor, 47 percent (7-of-15) from three-point range, and 67 percent (24-of-36) from the free-throw line. The Lady Bengals shot 46 percent (34-of-74) from the floor, 27 percent (4-of-15) from downtown, and 54 percent (13-of-24) from the stripe. Co-Lin outrebounded the Lady Bengals 48 to 42.
