Lady Wolves move to 4-1 with pair of wins

SUMMIT, Miss. - The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves had a good showing at the Southwest Mississippi Coca-Cola Classic on the campus of Southwest Mississippi Community College. The team picked up two victories with a 58-46 win over Southern-Shreveport and a 61-52 victory over Baton Rouge Community College. The wins move Co-Lin to 4-1 on the young season. The Lady Wolves will not return to action until December when Co-Lin has three straight home games versus Mississippi Delta, Pearl River, and Delgado on December 4, 9, and 12. All three games tip at 5:30 p.m. and can be watched live at colinathletics.com/watch.

In the matchup with Southern-Shreveport, the action was tight throughout the first quarter as the game was tied four times; however, to start the second quarter the Lady Wolves rattled off a 9-0 run that put Co-Lin on top 22-13. The momentum shift was led by Chardonay Williams, Orieon James, and Cianna Jones as the trio all hit big shots. The Lady Wolves never relinquished that lead for the remainder of the game as the team secured the victory.

Sha'Quandra Carter led the Lady Wolves in both scoring and on the glass with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Camryn Davis, and Orlandrea McGee both scored 10. Darien Tubby led the Lady Wolves with eight assists.

Co-Lin outshot the Lady Jaguars with 42 percent (22-of-52) shooting from the field to the SUSLA's 21 percent (13-of-62). The Lady Wolves also outrebounded them, 58 to 39.

Game two of the Classic, versus Baton Rouge, played out differently as Carter lit up the scoreboard early for Co-Lin. The sophomore rattled home the first nine points of the contest, putting the Lady Wolves on top 9-2 in the opening minutes. The Lady Wolves continued to push and grew that lead to 18-2 with 3:48 remaining in the first quarter. The Lady Wolves maintained that lead for a while before a scoring drought in the second quarter allowed the Lady Bears back in the game. The Lady Bears went on a 12-2 run to cut the lead to just four, 28-24, just before halftime.

Co-Lin rallied back in the third quarter and re-grew the lead to 14, 49-35, which put the Lady Wolves in control for the remainder of the game and helped get the win.

Carter mirrored her stats from day one with another double-double performance of 20 points and 10 rebounds, while TaMara Riley added 10 points and nine boards. Tubby once again led the Lady Wolves with eight assists and three steals. The Lady Wolves shot 38 percent (23-of-61) from the floor but struggled beyond the arc shooting just 15 percent (4-of-26), while the Lady Bears were 30 percent (16-of-54) from the floor and 36 percent (4-of-11) from three-point range.
