Lady Wolves Escape Lady Bears for Seventh Straight Win

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team returned to action with a road contest against Baton Rouge on Monday, December 9. The Lady Wolves overcame a sluggish start in a back-and-forth battle to pick up a 77-68 win over the Lady Bears to earn their seventh straight win of the season.

"This game was a total team win," stated Co-Lin head coach Dr. Britta Stephens. "Everyone on our team stepped up and made big plays when they were called on during this game. We fought for 40 minutes and found a way to get big defensive stops in the second half."

The Lady Wolves outscored the Lady Bears, 23-19, in the first quarter to hold lead by that margin at the end of play. However, the Lady Bears responded by taking the second quarter, 23-16, to hold a slim 42-39 lead over the Lady Wolves as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Lady Wolves came out in the third quarter and erased the deficit by outscoring the Lady Bears, 17-12, to hold a 56-54 lead. The Lady Wolves then closed out the game outscoring the Lady Bears, 21-14, to secure the 77-68 victory on the road.

"Kylinn Bell was outstanding running our team offensively in this game. She made some unbelievable passes in addition to her scoring," added Stephens. "In the fourth quarter, Amari Barnes (Tylertown) was a huge defensive stopper for us down low."

Angel Wilkinson led the way offensively for the Lady Wolves as she led all scorers with 20 points along with five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. The Lady Wolves also had two players post double-double performances Kamaiyah Pruitt (Pass Christian) posted 19 points and a game-leading ten rebounds while Kylinn Bell (Choctaw) had ten points and a game-leading ten assists.

Maddison Mitchell (Baton Rouge, LA) had eight points with Jamyria Robinson (St. Martin) adding six points and eight rebounds. Eymani Key (Lafayette, LA) and Kaylee Johnson (Booneville) had five points each while Tyra Johnson (Morton) had four points to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin improves to 9-3 overall and will play their final home game before Christmas Break on Thursday, December 12 as they host Hinds. Tip-off between the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Wolves is set for 5:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.

"I was proud of our team to go and get a tough road win," stated Stephens. "I am also proud to watch this team continue to grow and get better each game."
