Lady Wolves tennis wins second in a row
WESSON – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves won their second straight match defeating the Hinds Lady Eagles 7-2. The Lady Wolves travel to East Central on Thursday with matches beginning at 2 p.m.
"It was a solid win for our women," said tennis coach Brenda Smith. "The importance of doubles was clear and the winning teams dominated doubles. I hope it serves as a source of confidence for us."
In doubles action, the Lady Wolves won all three matches. No. 1 doubles Ximena Daza and Carmen Manicea defeated Stefy Varon-Diaz and Paula Gutierrez 8-2, Kara Clark and Katy Clark defeated Madison Curtis and Anna Hayden Taylor 8-1 at No. 2, and Ashlyn Locke and Faith Bergeron outlasted Jordan Warren and Courtney Buffington 9-7 at No. 3.
In singles action, Daza defeated Varon-Diaz 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1. The most exciting match of the day came at No. 2 singles as Co-Lin's Manicea defeated Gutierrez 5-7, 7-5, 10-8. At No. 3 singles, Katy Clark disposed of Olivia White 6-2, 6-0 while twin sister Kara Clark took care of Warren 6-1, 6-3.
Hinds won two singles matches as Curtis defeated Co-Lin's Locke 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 and Taylor defeated Madison Franklin 7-5, 6-2 at No. 6.
