No. 17 Co-Lin eyes national tournament in Texas

WESSON, Miss. – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College women's tennis team is coming off a historic year for the program as the Lady Wolves won the MACJC State Championship/NJCAA Region XXIII Championship earlier this month. The win is the fourth title in Co-Lin's history and the first since 2002.

The stellar team play also landed Co-Lin a No. 17 national ranking just one week out of the NJCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship played in Tyler, Texas May 5-10.

Co-Lin has a lot of momentum behind them as four singles players in Katy Clark, Kara Clark, Ashlyn Locke, and Madison Shows advanced to the championship match in their respective flight. Locke won the singles title at No. 5 singles. The Lady Wolves' No. 1 and No. 2 singles players, Paula Coronado and Carmen Manicea both advanced to the semis.

In doubles play Co-Lin will be even more confident as all three teams, Coronado/Manicea, Clark/Clark, and Mckenzie Shows/Shows, all advanced to the doubles championship at the MACJC level, with Coronado and Manicea winning the No. 1 flight championship.

With a successful state and region tournament behind them and excellent leadership under first-year head coach and MACJC Coach of the Year Rob Channell, the Lady Wolves are ready to take Joann Medlock Murphy Tennis Center by storm come Sunday, May 5.
