Itawamba knocks Co-Lin out of the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament

LAUREL, Mississippi  The No. 15 Itawamba Lady Indians knocked the Lady Wolves out of the NJCAA Region 23 Championship 5-3. Due to weather delays, the matches were moved to the Laurel Sportsplex to keep the tournament on schedule.  ICC avenged 6-3 loss on March 6.  

In doubles action, the Lady Wolves picked a win at No. 1 as Camila Mordiz and Yari Bello defeated ICC's Lucia Rubio and Cheyenne Hughes 8-1. The Lady Indians took wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

Co-Lin managed only two wins in single action. Bello defeated Jimena Paloma 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 and Adyson Parks defeated Catlin Ard 7-5, 6-3 at No. 6.

The doubles team of Bello and Mordiz will represent the Lady Wolves at the NJCAA National Tournament as the MACCC Runners-Up with a 8-1 record. Their only loss came at the hands of doubles champion Helen Hernandez and Molly Bennett of Jones County. Bello was named to the All-MACCC Women's Tennis Team. The No. 16 ranked Lady Wolves will wait to see if they receive an at-large bid to the national tournament.
