Co-Lin loses twin bill to No. 10 JCJC

WESSON, Miss. – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves could not get much going at the plate until late in game two Tuesday night on the way to two MACJC losses to No. 10 JCJC. The 12-2 and 18-6 losses give the Wolves a 15-12 overall record and drop Co-Lin to 4-10 in MACJC play. The Wolves are on the road Friday, April 13 as the team travels to Clarksdale, Miss. to take on Coahoma Community College. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.

Game One, L, 12-2, five innings

The No. 10 Bobcats got runs on the board early with an RBI single in the second, and six runs in the third, off a walk, an RBI single, and back-to-back RBI doubles to take an early 7-0 lead.

That lead grew to 11-0 in the top of the fourth after another pair of RBI doubles and another single pushed four JCJC runs across.

In the bottom of the fourth, Austin O'Flynn led off with a single and was moved to third with a double from Jaylyn Williams. O'Flynn scored on a wild pitch and Ryan Zimmerman drove in Williams with an RBI single later in the inning cutting the Bobcats' lead to 11-2.

An error in the top of the fifth stretched JCJC's lead to 12-2, and the Wolves were unable to get anything started in the bottom half of the fifth to close out the run-rule finish.

Will Freeman got the victory on the mound for JCJC. He went five innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out five and walking zero.

Austin Tidwell took the loss for the Wolves as he allowed eight hits and seven runs over three innings, striking out four.

Game Two, L, 18-6, six innings

JCJC's hot bats continued in the nightcap with a two-run homer in the top of the first to give the Bobcats an early 2-0 lead.

Craig Bradley drew a four-pitch walk to lead off the bottom of the first and Austin O'Flynn followed with a single to give Co-Lin some momentum. Back-to-back RBI singles from Ryan Zimmerman and Jaylyn Williams knotted the game at 2-2 going into the second.

Some walks and an error gave the Bobcats three runs in the third and put JCJC back on top 5-2.

Four JCJC RBI singles and an RBI groundout quickly bumped that lead to 10-2 in the top of the third.

Zimmerman continued his streak of quality at-bats with a solo homer in the bottom of third and cut the lead to 10-3.

JCJC continued to pour in runs in the fifth and sixth off singles and stretched the lead to 18-3, but the Wolves refused to give in.

Tyler Vroman drove in CJ Estave on a groundout to the shortstop in the bottom of the sixth. Estave led off the inning with a single. Chandler Dillard followed Vroman with an RBI single that plated Austin Tidwell. Williams drove Tidwell later in the inning to cut the lead to 18-6, but when the frame wrapped up the Wolves were on the losing end of a run-rule.

Jordan Bowden took the loss for the Wolves on the mound. He surrendered five runs on one hit over one and one-third innings.

Williams and Zimmerman each managed two hits each to lead Co-Lin at the plate.
