Baseball wins four straight

WESSON, Miss. - The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves grew their record to 7-4 and stretched their winning streak to five straight with a pair of non-division doubleheader sweeps. The Wolves took down Baton Rouge Community College at home before traveling to Mobile, Ala. to face the Spring Hill College JV team, where they picked up another two wins.

The Wolves run-ruled the Baton Rouge Bears in game one at Sullivan Field after the Wolves got on the board early with back-to-back RBI doubles from Peyton Parker and Marquez Hudson. The team then blew the game wide open early as the Wolves poured in eight runs in the bottom of the second. The offensive onslaught by Co-Lin was led by Brooks Italiano, Joshua Day, Parker, Justin Johnson, Clint Stephens, and Cade Lowery, as they all drove in runs in the inning.

Day capped off the Wolves scoring in the bottom of the third with a towering, two-run homer. The Bears got one run back late in the game, but after the top of the fifth, Co-Lin led 12-1, and earned the victory.

Caleb Rutledge was stellar for the Wolves in the abbreviated complete game from the rubber. He surrendered one run on two hits over five innings, striking out three and walking zero.

Game two was a little closer, but like the first, the Wolves jumped in front early with a pair of RBI singles from Landry McQueen and Kylar Fielder in the second inning. Johnson drove in another two in the third, and McQueen picked up another RBI as well growing the lead to 5-0. The Bears responded in the top of the fifth with a four-run frame, cutting the Wolves' lead to one, but Co-Lin hit back in the bottom of the fifth with RBIs from Day and Hudson to push the lead to the final score, 9-5.

Peyton Parker was the winning pitcher for Co-Lin as he got the nod to start the contest. He surrendered four runs on five hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one. Micah Parker and Rhett Blackburn entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Co-Lin collected 14 hits in the game with Hudson, Johnson, Italiano, and McQueen all posting multiple hits. Hudson went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the team in hits.

The Wolves carried the momentum of the wins over to Mobile and grabbed another two wins.

The Wolves were given three free runs in the top of third on an error and a pair of walks before adding one run in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings in game one. The Wolves pushed in another two in the top of the seventh to grow the lead to 8-0. The Badgers scratched two across in the bottom half of the final frame, but it was not enough as Co-Lin won 8-2.

Adie Goodman led Co-Lin to victory on the mound. He allowed zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out three. Tucker Jones and Cameron Hill entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

The nightcap versus the Badgers was neck and neck and as the contest stayed close throughout. Co-Lin got on the board in the top of the first with a fielder's choice and an error, but Spring Hill responded with two in the bottom.

Trey Frierson pushed one in with an RBI single in the top of the fifth, but once again the Badgers responded with runs on a single and an error, making it 4-3 Spring Hill. In the sixth, Frierson ripped an RBI single to tie the game once again at 4-4. Johnson got one run in for Co-Lin in the top of the seventh, the Badgers were there in the bottom half of the seventh to knot the game at 5-5. In the top of the 10th, Lowery smoked a line drive to left to score Hunter Estes who reached base earlier on a single. Co-Lin held in the bottom of the 10th to secure the 6-5 win.

Micah Parker pitched the Wolves to victory as he went three innings, allowing zero runs on two hits, striking out two and walking zero. Weston AceyKonner Allen, and Day all put in work in relief out of the bullpen. Day recorded the last three outs to earn this first save of the season.
