Co-Lin baseball takes pair from Highland (IL)

WESSON, Miss. - The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves stretched their winning streak to seven on Friday night as the team swept a pair from Highland Community College out of Illinois, 4-1 and 5-1. The wins move the Wolves to 9-4 on the year.

The Wolves had strong performances on the mound and in the batter's box in game one as Caleb Rutledge fanned 10 batters from the bump, while the Wolves racked up seven hits. The Wolves got on the board early as Peyton Parker ripped an RBI single in the bottom of the first. Marquez Hudson followed suit with an RBI double to push the lead to 2-0.

A sacrifice fly got one across for the Cougars in the top of the fourth, but Hudson got his second RBI of the day in the bottom of the frame as he drove in a run on a groundout to keep the Wolves up by two, 3-1. The final run of the contest came later in the fourth when Justin Johnson scored on a passed ball.

Solid pitching closed out the game as Rhett Blackburn earned the save with one inning pitched.

Kyler Fielder led the Wolves at the plate with two hits in the game.

In the nightcap, the action was scarce in the first couple of innings, before the Cougars leaped in front with a sac fly in the top of the third. Co-Lin once again hit back in the bottom half of the inning with a couple of runs on back-to-back RBI doubles from Fielder and Keagan Ward to put the Wolves on top, 2-1.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Wolves threatened after back-to-back walks put two aboard. Those two runs eventually scored on another walk and a hit-by-pitch. Landry McQueen drove in the final run of the contest, also in the bottom of the sixth, with an RBI single to grow the Wolves' lead to 5-1.

Peyton Parker went the distance and was electric on the bump for Co-Lin as he picked up the win. He lasted seven innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out 12 and walking zero.
