Seven Wolves earn MACJC post-season honors

JACKSON, Miss. - The Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges has named post-season honors for the 2019 football season as voted on by the coaches of the league. Copiah-Lincoln Community College had seven players earn recognition with five being tabbed first team in John Allen, Jordan Davis, Malik Heath, Antoine Robinson, and Tyrus Wheat and two earning second team honors in Jalen Bedell and Jalen Ware

John Allen, an offensive lineman from Jackson, Miss., is the only freshman represented by Co-Lin. The Forest Hill High School graduate helped the Wolves gain 828 yards on the ground in 2019. 

Jordan Davis, a defensive lineman from Memphis, Tenn., wrapped up 36 tackles on the year despite playing in just seven games due to injury. The 6'5, 250-pound rusher was tied on the team with three sacks on the year and forced two fumbles. 

Malik Heath, a wide receiver from Jackson, Miss., proved to reliable target for Co-Lin's offense in 2019 as he hauled in 33 catches for 502 yards. The explosive player from Callaway High School had three touchdowns on the season. 

Antoine Robinson, a wide receiver from Canton, Miss., led the Wolves in nearly all receiving categories with 37 catches for 721 yards, seven touchdowns, 19.5 yards per catch, and a team-high 80.1 yards per game. Robinson had two breakout games in 2019, 198 yards on six catches and two scores versus Pearl River, and 142 yards on six catches and three scores versus Southwest to close out the season. 

Tyrus Wheat, a linebacker from Amite, La., was a leader on the defensive side for Co-Lin. The 6'3 linebacker posted 39 tackles and six tackles for loss. He also posted a team-high three interceptions, had two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. Wheat sealed the win against Northeast for Co-Lin with two interceptions, including an 86-yard pick-six.

Jalen Bedell, a defensive lineman from Greenwood, got the second team nod after dominating in the trenches. The powerful interior lineman tallied 30 tackles on the season with four and a half tackles for loss and two sacks. The sophomore also finished the year with one fumble recovery. 

Jalen Ware, a defensive back from Starkville, Miss., also earned second team honors after wrapping up 34 tackles on the season. The Starkville High School graduate had three and a half tackles for loss, two sacks, and a 52-yard interception return for a touchdown. 

The Wolves finished the season 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the MACJC South Division. Next for the majority of sophomore players from Co-Lin is graduation in December before signing period where many players will continue their careers and education at four-year programs.
