Wolves finish sixth in Mississippi College Invitational

MADISON, Miss. - The Copiah-Lincoln Community College golf team had a strong showing in the Mississippi College Spring Invitational this week as the lone community college representative. The tournament fielded 12 teams including Delta State, Mississippi College, Christian Brothers, Spring Hill, Union University, Arkansas Monticello, Missouri S&T, Shorter University, Millsaps, Belhaven, and LeMoyne-Owen College. The Wolves finished in sixth place with a three-day total of 879 after rounds of 296, 292, and 291. 

Co-Lin's Garrett Herring led the Wolves with rounds of 72, 71, and 73 to post a three-day, 216. The impressive play landed Herring 15th place overall. 

Adam Files and Nick Davis finished tied for 24th individually with totals of 220. with rounds of 75, 74, 71 and 73, 75, 72, respectively. 

Bryson Jones posted a 225 with rounds of 76, 72, 77, while Logan Pitts posted a 232 with scores of 82, 75, 75. 

"I'm very pleased with our guys' rounds and scores," said Co-Lin head coach Craig Hennington. "These were some very talented colleges and universities, and we showed that we can hold our own with any of them. We hope to carry this momentum into the next MACJC event."

Delta State, the No. 13 team in the nation ran away with the event with an 816, while Mississippi College, Christian Brothers, and Spring Hill were all close at 863, 864, and 865 for second, third, and fourth-place finishes. Union University was just in front of Co-Lin with an 872. The Wolves finished ahead of Arkansas Monticello (881), Missouri S&T (883), Shorter University (884), Millsaps (899), Belhaven (949), and LeMoyne-Owen (1120).

The Wolves are back in action on March 23 and 24 as the team travels to Briarwood Country Club in Meridian for the fourth MACJC event of the year.
