Lady Wolves continue winning streak

WESSON, Miss. – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves had another dominating day on the diamond as the team defeated the Baton Rouge Lady Bears 9-2 and shut out the Spoon River Lady Snappers 16-0 to move to 8-0 on the year. After today's games, the Lady Wolves have driven in 60 runs on 86 hits as a team through eight games. Tomorrow's games, Sunday, February 17 against Spoon River, have been cancelled due to rain. The Lady Wolves will be back in action on Friday, February 22 as Co-Lin travels to Baton Rouge to take on the Lady Bears at 2 and 5 p.m.

Game One, Baton Rouge CC

The Lady Wolves got on the scoreboard in the first inning after Harmoni Ashley hit a solo shot to right-center field. Callie Fortenberry also crossed the plate in the bottom of the frame to put Co-Lin on top 2-0.

The Lady Bears got one back in the top of the second after a fielding error put one across.

Co-Lin stretched the lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the third with an RBI double from Julie Scheuermann that plated Katelyn Hayman and Hannah Walls. Marley Poole followed with a single that plated Scheuermann.

Another run came in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single from Hayman to drive home Carly Polk who led off the inning with a four-pitch walk.

BRCC scratched one across with a double in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 6-2, but a solo shot from Poole in the bottom half of the fifth cut-off the Lady Bear's momentum. Scheuermann plated the Lady Wolves final two runs with a double to left in the bottom of the sixth.

Kaytlon Ward got the win in the circle for Co-Lin. She allowed two hits and one run over five innings, striking out two and walking one. The run was Ward's first earned run of the season.  Mackenzie Gros threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Scheuermann led the Lady Wolves at the dish with two hits and four RBIs, while Poole posted two hits and two RBIs.

Game Two, Spoon River

The Lady Wolves ran away with the nightcap against Spoon River after plating a staggering 15 runs in the bottom of the first inning. The huge inning was highlighted with an RBI triple from Hayman and RBI doubles from Walls, Scheuermann, Tori Pettit, and April Lynn. Delaine McMillan rounded out the scoring in the bottom of the second with double to stretch the lead to 16-0.

The Lady Wolves closed out the game in the following three innings after not surrendering another hit.

Gros was the winning pitcher for the Lady Wolves. She went one inning, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out one and walking zero. Amber Brinson threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen.

The Lady Wolves posted 15 hits in the game. Hayman, McMillan, Sheuermann, and Ashley each managed multiple hits for the Lady Wolves.

The pitching for Co-Lin has been dominant this season as the Lady Wolves have given up just two earned runs as a team while racking up 48 strikeouts through eight games. The Lady Wolves team ERA is .292.
