Lady Wolves blow by Hinds, 81-40

WESSON, Miss. - Fueled by a 35-11 third-quarter performance, the Lady Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College ran away with an 81-40 victory over the Hinds Community College Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday night. The MACJC South Division win stops a two-game losing skid and builds momentum going into Thursday, January 23's matchup with Meridian Community College in Wesson. Meridian enters the matchup with a 5-9 overall record and a 2-3 record in division play, while Co-Lin's win improves the Lady Wolves to 9-5, 3-2. The Lady Wolves played strong defense in the opening quarter against Hinds as Co-Lin built a healthy lead over the opening 10 minutes. After one, the Lady Wolves led 14-4 and did not allow the Lady Bulldogs to score from the floor at all. Co-Lin's relentless defense lightened up slightly in the second period, but the Lady Wolves' offensive presence grew on the other end, including a 9-1 scoring run over the last couple of minutes led by Sha'Quandra Carter and Orieon James. Going into the locker room, the Lady Wolves led big, 36-18. 

Co-Lin blew the game wide open in the third quarter as huge scoring runs bolstered the Lady Wolves' lead. Runs of 11-3, 11-2, and 8-0 pushed Co-Lin's lead to 42 points, 71-29, going into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, the Lady Wolves' offense pumped the breaks as the offensive tempo slowed. 

Carter led Co-Lin with 18 points after going 6-for-13 from the floor, while James came off the bench and netted 15 after hitting 9-of-14 free throws. Dashell Davis led the Lady Wolves in rebounds with 11 and in blocks with two. Chardonay Williams also had a strong performance with a team-high six assists. Andrika Carter was Hinds lone double-digit scorer with 10 points, while Acacia Stewart posted nine rebounds. 

The Lady Wolves shot 45 percent (28-of-62) from the floor, 26 percent (5-of-19) from three-point range, and 69 percent (20-of-29) from the free-throw line. The Lady Bulldogs shot 25 percent (13-of-53) from the floor, five percent (1-of-20) from downtown, and 65 percent (13-of-20) from the stripe. Co-Lin outrebounded Hinds 51 to 29 and committed five fewer turnovers.
