Lady Wolves take down Gulf Coast, 68-63, in overtime

WESSON, Miss. - The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves ended a three-game losing streak on Monday night with a 68-63, overtime victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast as five Lady Wolves scored in double-digits. The win moves Co-Lin to 10-8, 4-5 on the year, and the drops the Lady Bulldogs to 14-3, 6-3. The Lady Wolves are on the road this Thursday, February 6 as the team travels to Decatur to take on the East Central Lady Warriors. "We for sure needed this win, this is the first time since December to have our full roster as we've been going through some injuries," said Co-Lin head coach Gwyn Young. "We were able to score some points, but we have to shoot better from three-point range, but our 80% free throw shooting was a difference-maker."

After trading baskets early in the game, the Lady Wolves ran away with a big lead with strong offensive shooting in the first half, and lock-down defense. An 8-2 Co-Lin run midway through the second quarter led by Dashell Davis, Camryn Davis, and capped off by a three-pointer from Orlandra McGee put the Lady Wolves on top 31-19. The solid play resulted in the Lady Wolves shooting 41 percent from the floor while holding the Lady Bulldogs to just 35 percent which gave  Co-Lin a 38-27 lead at the half. 

Gulf Coast came to life in the third quarter as the Lady Bulldogs began hitting baskets down low from Daphane White and Kayla Simmons. The Lady Bulldogs closed out the third quarter with an 8-2 run that cut Co-Lin's lead to just six, 52-46, going into the fourth. Gulf Coast chipped away at that lead throughout the fourth despite big shots from Camryn Davis, Orien James, and a big three-pointer from Sha'Quandra Carter. White rattled home free throw with less than a minute to play to tie the game for just the second time at 63-63. The Lady Bulldogs had possession with no shot clock and a chance to win at the end of regulation, but the Lady Wolves locked down the defensive side of the court and did not let Gulf Coast get the shot off, sending the game to overtime at 63-all.

Co-Lin scored early in overtime with a layup from TaMara Riley. Co-Lin continued to dominate the defensive side as they shutout the Bulldogs in the extra frame. Camryn Davis helped seal the victory with a late overtime three-pointer. 

Camryn Davis led Co-Lin with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while Carter finished with 13. Dashell Davis and McGee finished with 11 each, and Riley rounded out the top scorers with 10. Dashell Davis led Co-Lin with 10 rebounds to secure the double-double. Darien Tubby led the Lady Wolves with nine assists, her highest since the season opener in November. 

White led Gulf Coast with 16 points, while Simmons finished with a 15-point, 13-rebound double-double. 

The Lady Wolves shot 36 percent (25-of-69) from the floor, 24 percent (6-of-25) from three-point range, and 80 percent (12-of-15) from the free-throw line. The Lady Bulldogs shot 37 percent (23-of-63) from the floor, 14 percent (2-of-14) from downtown, and 68 percent (15-of-22) from the stripe. Gulf Coast outrebounded Co-Lin 48 to 40, but the Lady Wolves limited turnovers with 13 to the Lady Bulldogs' 17.
