Lady Wolves fall to No. 10 Jones College in Region XXIII Tournament

CLINTON, Miss. - A barrage of three-pointers in the second quarter was the difference-maker on Wednesday night as the No. 10 Lady Bobcats of Jones College pulled away to an 81-65 victory over the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves. Despite the loss, several Lady Wolves had career nights as they closed out the 2020 season. Co-Lin finishes the season, 13-11, 7-7. 

The Lady Wolves leaped out in front with a 6-0 run to open the game through the first four minutes of action to get a lot of momentum. Baskets from Morgan McCray, TaMara Riley, and Sha'Quandra Carter held off the Lady Bobcats later in the quarter, and with just 1:19 remaining in the opening 10 minutes, Co-lin led 16-10. Jones capitalized on some missed shots in the final minute and the Lady Wolves took just a two-point, 18-16, advantage into the second quarter. 

Early in the second quarter, Jones' Chyna Allen tied the game at 20-20 with a three-pointer. The long-shot was the first three-pointer of five over the next five minutes of play. Keyara Jones made the next three for the Lady Bobcats to stretch the lead to 31-22. The Lady Wolves regained their footing late in the quarter, but the Lady Bobcats outpaced Co-Lin 27 to 11 in the second quarter to take a 43-29 lead into the locker room. 

The third quarter was much more competitive as Carter, Camryn Davis, and Dashell Davis attacked the basket down low for Co-Lin, but Jones continued to make their shots on the other end. 

Co-Lin outscored the Lady Bobcats, 19-17, in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough as Jones hung on to win 81-65. 

Carter finished the night with a career-high 26 points after hitting 11-of-14 free throws. The sophomore also posted a double-double by hauling in a team-best 12 rebounds. Riley added 13 points, while Camryn Davis poured in 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor. 

Jones had five players score in double-digits but were led by an 18-point performance from Keyara Jones who was 4-for-9 from three-point range. LaMiricle Sims led the team with seven rebounds, while Allen dished seven assists. 

The Lady Wolves shot 36 percent (24-of-66) from the floor, 12 percent (2-of-17) from three-point range, and 65 percent (15-of-23) from the free-throw line. The Lady Bobcats shot 43 percent (29-of-68) from the floor, 37 percent (7-of-19) from downtown, and 80 percent (16-of-20) from the stripe. The Lady Wolves outrebounded the Lady Bobcats, 51 to 37.
