No. 25 Lady Wolves improve to 2-0

WESSON, Miss. - The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves tennis team moved to 2-0 on the young season Friday afternoon with a 7-2 victory over the Itawamba Indians.

"It was a great match for our girls today," said Co-Lin head coach Dana Hale. "Everyone played very hard, including Gracie Phillips in a hard-fought win. I'm very impressed with Susana Patino because, through two matches, she has not dropped a single game. It's a really good start to the season for us."

Patino paired up with Paula Coronado for the Lady Wolves at No. 1 doubles and trounced ICC's Juliana Alves and Maggie Creekmore, 8-1. Madison Shows and Mckenzie Shows linked up at No. 2 and battled Riley Crouch and Farrah Fowlkes. The Lady Wolves grabbed the win, at No. 2, 8-6. Britany Barnett and Gracie Phillips played No. 3 for the Lady Wolves and went toe-to-toe with Itawamba's Brianna Hibler and Sydney Ferguson but lost 9-7 in a tight match.

In singles action, Coronado defeated Alves 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1, while Patino rolled through Creekmore, 6-0, 6-0. Madison Shows earned a tough win over Fowlkes, 7-6, 7-5 at No. 3 singles, while her sister Mckenzie Shows defeated Crouch, 6-3, 6-1. Barnett dropped a tough one to ICC's Hibler at No. 5 singles, 7-6, 6-2, while Phillips duked it out with Ferguson at No. 6. After splitting sets, 6-2, 5-7, Phillips outlasted Ferguson in the tie-breaker, 10-7, to secure the Lady Wolves victory.
