No. 18 Co-Lin suffers first loss of 2020

ELLISVILLE, Miss. - The No. 18 ranked Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves' tennis team found themselves on the losing side for the first time in six matches last night as the No. 17 Jones College Lady Bobcats squeezed out a home win, 5-4. The match was very tight with tiebreakers at both No. 1 and No. 2 singles play. Co-Lin is back in Wesson this Saturday, February 29, as the team takes on No. 19 Meridian on the Lady Wolves' home courts at 1 p.m.

The Lady Wolves picked up one point in doubles action as Paula Coronado and Susana Patino took down Jones College's Bella Chela and Judith Mills, handily, 8-2. Co-Lin's Madison Shows and Mckenzie Shows paired up at No. 2 doubles and fought hard, but ultimately fell to Danielle Viljoen and Dixie Hodges, 8-2. Britany Barnett and Gracie Phillips teamed up at the No. 3 slot, but lost to Brooke Chism and Stori Endt, 8-1.

In singles play, Coronado snuck out a win at No. 1 against Chela after dropping the second set. The sophomore battled back and won a close tiebreaker, 10-8, to secure the win, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0. Patino had a similar story at No. 2 singles as she dominated the first set, dropped the second, and grabbed the win in a tiebreaker, 10-7, over Viljoen. She won the first set, 6-1 and lost the second 3-6. Madison Shows played No. 3 singles and lost a tough match at the hands of Mills, 4-6, 3-6. Madison's twin sister Mckenzie Shows laced up at No. 4 and defeated Hodges in mirrored sets, 6-4, 6-4, to secure the Lady Wolves' final point of the day. Barnett played No. 5 singles, but fell to
Chism, 0-6, 1-6, while Phillips played No. 6 and lost to Kamryn Rodriguez, 1-6, 3-6.
