No. 13 Co-Lin hosts Mississippi Gulf Coast in 2017 home opener

WESSON, Miss. – After two road tests, the No. 13 ranked Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College (2-0) open home play at Stone Stadium on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 7 p.m. as the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs (1-1) travel to Wesson. Thursday will be the 58th meeting between the Bulldogs and Wolves dating back to 1929 in which Gulf Coast leads the series 50-16-1. Watch the action live at colinathletics.com or listen live at WMJU 104.3 FM in Brookhaven.

Co-Lin enters Thursday's contest after two solid performances to open the 2017 campaign. With the most recent game being a 34-6 victory over the Coahoma Tigers. The Wolves have utilized a very balanced offensive scheme that has accumulated 772 yards on the year, while giving up only 12 points and 425 yards on defense. The Wolves have also snagged six interceptions through two games.

The Bulldogs travel to Wesson after falling to No. 2 East Mississippi last week, 49-10. Gulf Coast has racked up 811 yards thus far in 2017, but has given up 1,059 yards on the defensive side of the ball.

Co-Lin's coaching staff hopes freshman quarterback Woody Barrett can continue his stellar play from last week where he was 16-for-27 for 169 yards and two touchdowns. The Orlando, Fla. native, also rushed for 122 yards on just 10 carries. The Wolves also look to continue the two running back system that has ravaged defenses in 2017. Deion Dampier is coming off a 91 yard game at Coahoma, while Rico Owens posted 75 yards and two scores last week.

The Wolves' receiving corps, led by sophomores Nero Nelson and Kobe Gates, hopes to continue its solid play that has seen eight players make receptions.

Defensively Co-Lin has been stellar. The Wolves have forced seven turnovers, 14 sacks, and 21 tackles for loss in just two weeks of play. Tyler Glass, Paul Wilson Jr., Swayze Bozeman, Charles Cameron, and Keith Washington lead the Wolves, but the performances have been a team effort as 10 players have recorded sacks for Co-Lin.

Thursday's contest is True Blue Thursday! Fans are asked to wear blue to support the Wolves.
