Co-Lin looks for consistency against Hinds

WESSON, Miss. – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves (3-2, 1-2) play host to the Eagles of Hinds Community College (4-0, 3-0) this Thursday, October 5 at 7 p.m. in Stone Stadium on Co-Lin's Wesson Campus. Thursday's match up is the 76th meeting between the two programs, dating back to 1949. The series is currently tied at 36-36-3, after Hinds defeated the Wolves 17-14 last season. Co-Lin has momentum entering the contest as the Wolves are coming off a thrilling 27-24 road win over East Central Community College. The Eagles defeated the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs last week at home 28-21.

The Wolves had several impressive drives last week as Co-Lin leapt to a 17-7 lead in the first quarter against ECCC. However, that dominant offensive presence was not there throughout the contest. The Wolves still racked up 419 yards of total offense while holding the Warriors to just 213. The Wolves will need a consistent offensive performance paired with strong defensive play on Thursday to be successful.

The Eagles average 409.8 yards per game on the offensive side of the ball, fifth best in the MACJC, compared to the Wolves 344.8, but Co-Lin leads the state in defense, giving up an average of just 224.6 yards per game. Hinds has given up an average of 386.3 yards per game through four games this year.

The Wolves offense, like most of the season, was extremely balanced last week as Co-Lin posted 206 passing yards and 213 rushing yards. Freshman quarterback Woody Barrett led Co-Lin's offensive attack for most of the game. Barrett was 11-for-25 in the air for 162 yards and two TDs. The Orlando, Fla. native also had one touchdown on the ground. Hayden Davis, Co-Lin's other freshman quarterback, was 3-for-4 for 44 yards and one interception. Jemarcus Weatherall led the receiving corps with 51 yards on four receptions and one touchdown. Jalen Browder racked up 50 yards on three receptions and TK McClendon added another 43 yards and a score.

Deion Dampier led Co-Lin's rushing game. The freshman posted 81 yards on 15 carries, while Rico Owens had four touches for 34 yards. Barrett had 70 yards on the ground.

Defensively, Paul Wilson Jr., Sh'Mar Kilby-Lane, Damien Dickens, and Charles Cameron led the Wolves with six tackles each. TJ Gray, Didravious Henry, Barry Howard, Jonathan Lolohea, and Dickens all wrapped up sacks, while a host of Wolves recorded tackles for loss.

Once again, Co-Lin's special team's was instrumental. Griffin Sublett was 2-for-2 on field goals including a 45-yard boot with less than two minutes remaining in the game. The sophomore's kick proved to be a game winner.
