Seven Wolves earn post-season accolades

WESSON, Miss. – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College football team had seven players earn MACJC and NJCAA recognition after standout seasons. The Wolves finished the 2017 season with a 4-5 overall record.

Elbert Watson, a 6'6 offensive lineman from Tunica, Miss., received NJCAA All-Region 23, MACJC Offensive Lineman MVP, and MACJC 1st Team All-State after a stellar sophomore campaign. Watson, a Rosa Fort High School graduate, helped the Wolves accumulate 1,663 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground while providing leadership on the offensive front.

Griffin Sublett, a sophomore kicker, was also tabbed MACJC 1st Team All-State. The Pascagoula native was 10-for-12 on field goals and 26-for-27 on extra points with his lone miss being blocked. Sublett's play also landed him MACJC Player of the Week on two occasions this season. As a freshman Sublett earned MACJC 2nd Team All-State and NJCAA Player of the Week twice.

Barry Howard received MACJC 1st Team All-State honors after a breakout season on the defensive line. Howard had 24 tackles on the year and 9.5 sacks. The sophomore from Hollandale, Miss. was second in the MACJC and 16th in the nation in sacks. The 6'1 225 pounder also posted 12 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles on the season.

Lamoni Jones earned MACJC 1st Team All-State recognition for his hard-hitting play from his linebacker position. The Yazoo County High School graduate was third on the team in tackles with 46 on the season. Jones also wrapped up seven tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks on the year.

Keith Washington, a Michigan transfer from Prattville, Ala., rounded out Co-Lin's MACJC 1st Team All-State honorees. Washington was a lockdown defensive back that posted 20 tackles, two interceptions, and a team high five pass breakups on the season. The sophomore also had a forced fumble and a fumble recovery on the year.

Freshman running back Deion Dampier earned MACJC 2nd Team All-State after racking up 560 yards on the ground. The Mendenhall High School Graduate averaged 4.8 yards per carry through 116 touches. Dampier had two scores on the ground and averaged a team high 62.2 yards per game.

Charles Cameron also earned MACJC 2nd Team All-State recognition after leading Co-Lin in tackles. Cameron, a 6'2, 290 pound sophomore defensive lineman from Morton, Miss., posted 48 tackles on the year and wrapped up four sacks. The Morton High School graduate also had nine tackles for loss on the season and one forced fumble.
