WESSON, Miss. - The No. 11 Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves fell to a talented No. 4 Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldog team on Thursday night, 38-20, in front of a large home crowd in Stone Stadium. The loss drops the Wolves to 3-2, 1-1 on the year and improves the Bulldogs to 5-0, 2-0. The Wolves return to action next Thursday, October 3 as Co-Lin hosts East Central Community College in Wesson. Kickoff for the game is set for 6:30 p.m. and fans can follow along with the action by watching live at www.colinathletics.com/watch or by listening at WMJU 104.3 FM in Brookhaven. Thursday's game is our Breast Cancer Awareness game and fans are asked to wear pink. 

Gulf Coast scored early and often on Thursday night to build a lead in the opening quarters. After back-to-back punts to start the game, Gulf Coast's quarterback, Chance Lovertich hit Marquise Bridge for a 48-yard touchdown. The score capped off a five-play, 69-yard drive and after the point after attempt, the Bulldogs led 7-0. 

Later in the quarter, after a couple more stalled drives by both teams, Co-Lin's Danny Clark's pass was picked and returned to Co-Lin's 28-yard line which set up a short field for Gulf Coast. The Bulldogs capitalized on the turnover and punched it in, in just four plays. Shaun Anderson got the score from one yard out. With 3:21 remaining in the first, Gulf Coast led 14-0. 

Co-Lin's drives continued to stall in the second quarter and after a punt from the Wolves' own endzone, the Bulldogs were set up with a short field yet again. Co-Lin's defense made a strong stand on the drive, which started at their own 23-yard line. Stops from Verdell Clemons and a sack from Co-Lin's John Allen stalled the Gulf Coast drive. Caden Davis hit a 39-yard field goal to grow the Bulldogs' lead to 17-0. 

The Wolves seemed to be building momentum on the ensuing drive as Clark hit Erick Rogers for a 19-yard gain followed by a 10-yard rush from Drexlan Allen. Unfortunately, a tipped pass at the line of scrimmage was picked off by Gulf Coast's Jackie Matthews, his second interception of the night, and was returned 75-yards for a Gulf Coast touchdown. The score stretched the lead to 24-0 with 6:20 remaining in the first half. 

Once again the Wolves had a promising drive developing on the next possession as Clark drove Co-Lin deep in the Gulf Coast territory with a 48-yard, one-handed catch by Malik Heath. The drive was once again cut short after a fumble on the snap gave Gulf Coast the ball at their own 20-yard line. Just when Gulf Coast seemed to really run away with the momentum, Co-Lin's Jalen Ware stepped up. Ware jumped a Gulf Coast route and picked off Lovertich's pass. The sophomore took it 52-yards to the house to put Co-Lin on the board. Bryce Lofton chipped in the extra point to make it 24-7 with 3:26 remaining in the half. That score would hold until the half. 

Co-Lin got the ball to start the third but were forced to punt after a three-and-out. Gulf Coast followed with an 11-play, 63-yard drive that saw nine rushes from Austin Bolton. Bolton capped off the drive with a one-yard touchdown dive. 

The Wolves had to punt on their next possession, but miscommunication from the Bulldogs resulted in a muffed return that Co-Lin recovered. The Wolves took over at Gulf Coast's 35-yard line and looked to capitalize. After a 15-yard run from Allen, Clark hit Dawson Brown from 12-yards out for a Co-Lin score. The score cut the Bulldogs' lead to 31-14 with 7:57 remaining in the third. 

After a Gulf Coast punt, the Wolves went on a quick seven-play drive that saw several big rushes from JJ Jernighan. Co-Lin's Lakenith Thompson finished off the drive from three-yards out with a keeper from a wildcat formation. The ensuing extra-point failed, which made it 31-20 with 14:15 remaining in the fourth. 

Gulf Coast punched in another score on the following drive led by running back Omni Wells. The score put the Bulldogs on top 38-20, a score that would hold until the final buzzer. 

The Wolves finished with 262 yards of total offense with 156 through the air and 106 on the ground, while the Bulldogs finished with 335, 149 passing and 186 rushing. Clark was 14-for-36 for 156 yards, one score, and two interceptions, while Allen led the rushing attack with 48 yards on eight carries. Thompson posted 37 yards on four carries and a score, while Jernighan had 34 yards on eight carries. Heath finished the night with 92 receiving yards on seven catches, while Rogers had 34 yards on three receptions. Brown hauled in the only passing touchdown and finished with 17-yards. 

Hayden Hill led Co-Lin's defense with 12 tackles and one breakup, while Tyrus Wheat and Khehlan Kennedy both wrapped up seven tackles. Wheat finished with two tackles for loss, had one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Ware had Co-Lin's only interception and John Allen wrapped up the Wolves' only sack.
