Wolves Drop Road Game to Bobcats

ELLISVILLE – The Co-Lin Football team opened MACCC South Division play with their first road game of the season on Thursday, September 22, facing off against Jones. The Bobcats beat the Wolves, 42-32.

The Bobcats got on the board first with their first possession of the game taking a 7-0 lead on an eight play, 55-yard drive with 9:20 remaining in the quarter. The Wolves responded with their first points of the game late in the first quarter as Brandon Gilliam (Vicksburg) capped off a six play, 44-yard drive by setting a new career-long field goal mark from 44 yards out making the score, 7-3, with 4:01 left in the in the quarter.

The Bobcats explosive second quarter would prove to be the difference in the game as they scored on three straight possessions to increase their lead to 28-3 with 9:34 left in the quarter. The Wolves then cut into the lead midway through second quarter as DeVon Tott (Mandeville, LA) connected with Dakota Thomas (Snellville, GA) on a 26-yard catch-and-run to cap off a six play, 77-yard drive. The successful PAT made the score, 28-10 with 6:55 remaining in the second quarter.

The Bobcats responded with a touchdown late in the first half to extend the lead to 35-10. However, the Wolves responded with a touchdown on their ensuing possession as Tott scampered in from five yards out capping off an eight play, 30-yard drive setup by a fumble on a punt return by the Bobcats. The PAT made the score 35-17 with 22 seconds left in the half.

The Wolves then got the scoring started in the third quarter as they scored on their opening possession of the second half. Gilliam hit his second field goal of the game, this time from 34 yards out, capping off an eight play, 61-yard drive and making the score, 35-20 with 9:28 remaining in the quarter. However, the Bobcats responded with their final score of the night on the ensuing possession to push their lead to 42-20 with 5:03 left in the quarter.

The Wolves once again found the endzone as Tott completed a four-yard pass to O'Ryan James (Houma, LA) completing a seven play, 40-yard drive setup by an interception by Malachi Williams (Brookhaven) on a fake punt attempt by the Bobcats. The Wolves two-point conversion attempt came up short making the score, 42-26, with 14:20 left in the fourth quarter.

The Wolves added their next touchdown on a five-yard rush by Tott completing a ten play, 63-yard drive, but another failed two-point conversion left the Wolves trailing, 42-32 with 8:53 remaining in the game. The Wolves then recovered a fumble by the Bobcats on their next possession setting the Wolves offense up deep in Bobcats territory. The Wolves offense then looked to add more points on the board, but the Bobcats blocked a 28-yard field goal attempt on and then sealed the game with an interception of the Wolves on their next possession.

Tott finished the night with 17 completions on 45 pass attempts for 213 yards with two touchdowns paired with 18 rushing yards on 11 carries with two touchdowns. Johnnie Daniels (Crystal Springs) led the rushing attack with 99 yards on 15 carries.

Carlos Martin (Laurel) led the receiving corps with 62 yards on two catches while Jaylen Smith (Jacksonville, FL) had 59 yards on four catches and Dakota Thomas (Snellville, GA) had 52 yards on three receptions with one touchdown.

Jahron Manning (New Orleans, LA) led the Wolves with ten total tackles while Andrew Johnson (Olive Branch) and Kenneth Andrews (Clinton) had nine total tackles each. Billy Pullen (Kaufman, TX) had seven total tackles with one interception and one pass breakup.

Co-Lin is now 2-1 overall, 0-1 in South Division play, and will return to action hosting Southwest. Kickoff between the Bears and the Wolves is set for 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, September 28, at H.L. Stone Stadium in Wesson.
