Wolves Stumble Against Bobcats

ELLISVILLE – The Co-Lin Football team took to the road for a ranked matchup against Jones on Thursday, September 19. The No. 9 Wolves lost to the No. 12 Bobcats, 21-12.

The Bobcats got on the board first after recovering an onside kick by the Wolves to start the game. The ensuing drive resulted in a 7-0 lead with 10:18 left in the first quarter. The Wolves then got on the board early in the second quarter as Que Tillman (West Point) powered the ball in from three yards out to cap off a seven play, 70-yard scoring drive. However, the PAT by Humberto Rosales (McCalla, AL) was missed leaving the Wolves trailing 7-6 with 13:01 left to play.

The Bobcats then took advantage of a defensive miscue for the second touchdown of the game midway through the second quarter and extended their lead to 14-6 with 7:43 remaining in the first half. The Wolves looked to tie the game late in the first half, but the Bobcats stepped in front of a pass near midfield for an interception to stop the potential game-tying drive and take the 14-6 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.

The Wolves then cut into the lead midway through the third quarter as Rosales hit a 35-yard field goal ending a nine play, 37-yard drive and making the deficit 14-9 with 6:48 left to play. The Wolves then climbed to within two points of the Bobcats as Rosales hit his second 35-yard field goal of the game ending a six play, 66-yard drive and making the score, 14-12 with 5:50 left to play in the fourth quarter.

The Bobcats then scored their final touchdown of the game to extend the lead to 21-12 with 2:11 left to play in the game. The Wolves then fumbled the ball on their next drive, giving the Bobcats the chance to run out the clock and seal the win.

Will Loy (Wesson) completed 20 of 36 pass attempts for 165 yards while Will Prichard (West Palm Beach, FL) completed two of five pass attempts with one interception. Tray Minor (Natchez) led the rushing attack with 95 yards on 12 carries to go along with three receptions for 11 yards.

Jordan Richardson (Gainesville, FL) had his best game in a Wolves uniform leading the receiving corps with 80 yards on nine receptions. Ca'Ron Williams (Natchez) and Kannon Cato (New Hebron) had two receptions for 34 and 19 yards respectively while Matt Mayfield (Sunset, LA) had one receptions for 41 yards.

Doug Nelson (Hazlehurst) led the Wolves defense with seven tackles while DJ Hill-Smith (Reed, AR) had six tackles with Ricardo Butler, Jr., (Alligator) and Malachi Williams (Brookhaven) had five tackles each. Lonnie Smith (Jackson) led the defense in sacks with two while Deaundre Washington (Brandon) had one sack. Smith, Washington, and Butler, Jr., also had one forced fumble each while Jonathan Crain (Brandon) had one interception and Damien Gill (Miami, FL) had one fumble recovery.

Co-Lin is now 2-2 overall, 1-1 in South Division play and will return home to host Southwest for Homecoming on Thursday, September 26. The Bears and Wolves will kickoff at 6:30 p.m., at Stone Stadium in Wesson.
