Wolves Drop Game Against Warriors

DECATUR – The Co-Lin Football team played their final South Division game on the road against East Central on Thursday, October 24. The No. 14 Warriors beat the Wolves, 31-14.

The first quarter saw the Wolves have two turnovers as the Warriors picked off a Will Loy (Wesson) pass followed by a fumble on a punt recovery by Zyrian Jackson (Hazlehurst) gave the Warriors the ball on back-to-back possessions. However, the Wolves defense answered the ball and forced a three-and-out after the fumbled punt recovery to give the Wolves offense the ball deep in their own territory. The offense then got the first score of the game with a three-yard rush by Deantre Jackson, Jr., (Marrero, LA) to cap off a four play, 67-yard drive which featured all rushing plays by Jackson, Jr. The PAT by Humberto Rosales (McCalla, AL) gave the Wolves a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Midway in the second quarter, the Warriors tied the game with a scoring drive started with their second interception of Loy where the ball was returned to the Wolves 28-yard line. The PAT for the Warriors tied the game 7-7 with 6:25 left in the quarter. However, the Wolves responded immediately as Zyrian Jackson fielded the kickoff by the Warriors at the Wolves two-yard line and returned it 98 yards for a touchdown. A successful PAT gave the Wolves a 14-7 lead with a 6:09 remaining in the first half. The Warriors responded with a touchdown drive on their ensuing possession while the PAT tied the game at 14-14 with 54 seconds left in the half. That score held as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The second half was dominated by the Warriors as the defense stalled the Wolves offense on every possession while the Warriors scored 14 points in the third and three points in the fourth to seal the 31-14 win.

Will Loy went 6-for-13 for 64 yards with two interceptions while Will Prichard (West Palm Beach, FL) went 6-for-10 for 44 yards. Deantre Jackson, Jr., led the rushing attack with 73 yards on eight carries while Tray Minor (Natchez) had 11 carries on 24 yards. Jordan Richardson (Gainesville, FL) led the receiving corps with 43 yards on three receptions while Jabraxton Boone (Forest) had two receptions for 31 yards.

Malachi Williams (Brookhaven) and Fernando Washington (Macon, GA) led the Wolves defense with eight tackles while Kenneth Andrews (Clinton) had seven tackles and DJ Hill-Smith (Reed, AR) had six. Doug Nelson (Hazlehurst) and Deaundre Washington (Brandon) had five tackles each.

Co-Lin is now 4-4 overall and will finish 3-3 in South Division play. The Wolves wrap up the regular season hosting the Tigers of Northeast Mississippi on Thursday, October 31. Kick-off is set for 6:30 p.m., as the Wolves will also celebrate Sophomore Day by honoring sophomore members of the football team, band, and cheer squad throughout the game.
