Wolves Dominate Tigers in Season Ending Win

WESSON – The Co-Lin Football team wrapped up the 2024 season by hosting Northeast Mississippi on Thursday, October 31. The Wolves dominated every part of the game en route to a 44-14 victory.

The Wolves got on the board first as they scored on their second drive of the game when Will Loy (Wesson) completed a 36-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Richardson (Gainesville, FL). The PAT by Humberto Rosales (McCalla, AL) gave the Wolves a 7-0 lead with 10:24 left in the first quarter.

The Wolves special teams unit then made their presence known as Kannon Cato (New Hebron) blocked a punt by the Tigers while Bryce Hooker (Biloxi) recovered the ball at the Tigers five-yard line. Deantre Jackson, Jr., (Marrero, LA) powered the ball into the endzone on the next play while a successful PAT increased the Wolves lead to 14-0 with 3:47 remaining in the first quarter. After two separate weather delays, the first quarter ended with the Wolves holding a 14-0 advantage over the Tigers.

The Wolves added to their lead as Rosales hit a 37-yard field goal to make the lead 17-0 with 14:55 to go in the second quarter. The Wolves defense then forced a turnover by the Tigers as Brent Barnes (Birmingham, AL) pounced on a fumble after a completed pass and gave the Wolves offense the ball on the Tigers 43-yard line. Three plays later, Jackson, Jr., scored his second rushing touchdown of the night, this time from 11 yards out, to cap off the drive. Another successful PAT by Rosales increased the lead to 24-0 with 12:35 left in the first half.

The Wolves added their second touchdown of the second quarter as Loy scampered in on a 36-yard quarterback keeper to end a three play, 49-yard drive. Another PAT gave the Wolves a 31-0 lead with 10:35 left to play. Jackson, Jr., added his third rushing touchdown of the game late in the first half as he blazed past the Tigers defense on a 46-yard scoring run capping off a three play, 68-yard drive. The PAT increased the lead to 38-0 with 40 seconds left in the first half.

With a running clock in the second half neither team scored in the third quarter while the Tigers scored twice in the fourth quarter with the Wolves sandwiching a six play, 79-yard scoring drive capped off by a six-yard scoring rush by Tray Minor (Natchez) between them to give the final of 44-14.

Will Loy completed five of eight passing attempts for 97 yards with one touchdown paired with one rush for 36 yards and one touchdown. Will Prichard (West Palm Beach, FL) completed one of three attempts for nine yards. Deantre Jackson, Jr., had a career night for the Wolves with 12 rushes for 164 yards with three touchdowns while Tray Minor had 89 yards on 19 carries with one touchdown. Jordan Richardson led the receiving corps with 54 yards on two receptions with one touchdown while Jabraxton Boone (Forest) had three receptions for 43 yards and Matt Mayfield (Sunset, LA) had one nine-yard reception.

The Wolves defense shined in the final game of the season holding the Tigers offense to just 101 total yards including eight passing yards and 93 rushing yards with three first downs throughout the game. Lakendrick James (Shelby) led the unit with five total tackles and two tackles for loss while Brent Barnes had four total tackles including one tackle for loss and had one fumble recovery. Fernando Washington (Macon, GA), Malachi Williams (Brookhaven), Tenerrean Jackson (Cleveland), Kenneth Andrews (Clinton), and Deaundre Washington (Brandon) had three tackles each.

Co-Lin finishes the season 5-4 overall, 3-3 in South Division play.
