Co-Lin gets revenge on Jones County with bounce back win

ELLISVILLE, Miss. – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves shot tremendously well Thursday night, as Co-Lin defeated the JCJC Bobcats 77-62. The win moves the Wolves 15-2 on the season, and 6-2 in the MACJC South Division, which puts them in second place. JCJC falls to 9-8 on the year and 4-4 in division play. The win is a nice response to the Wolves, 79-61, loss to Pearl River earlier in the week. Co-Lin plays host to Mississippi Gulf Coast on Monday, Feb. 5 at 8 p.m. in Mullen Gymnasium. The Wolves were red hot to start Thursday's contest as Co-Lin rattled home seven three-pointers in the first 12 minutes of action. Sophomore Darrian Wilson and freshman Miles Daniels led the impressive start. Daniels was a blistering 5-for-5 from beyond the arc in a six-minute span. With 8:55 remaining in the first half the Wolves led by 16, 31-15. An 11-3 JCJC run over the remainder of the half cut into the Wolves lead, but Co-Lin took a 10-point, 36-26 advantage into the half.

The second half was mostly the same for the Wolves as the team was successful from all parts of the floor, however JCJC finally found shooting rhythm, especially from beyond the arc. The threes from Quentin Pough midway through the half allowed the Bobcats to claw back into contention. With 13:10 remaining in the game Co-Lin was up by 3, 48-42.

Co-Lin sophomores Jonathan Floyd and Wilson took over the game late with the help of freshman Damarius Brooks. The trio combined for 26 of Co-Lin's final 27 points late in the game. The strong push pulled the game out of the Bobcat's reach and Co-Lin coasted to victory over the final three minutes.

Floyd, a sophomore from Gulfport, Miss., led the Wolves in the scoring column with 21 points. Wilson scored 16, and Daniels streak of three-pointers left him with 15. Wilson led the Wolves on the boards with seven, while Brooks hauled in six. Lazorian McNulty came off the bench for Co-Lin and led the Wolves with four assists. Another notable stat was Wilson's three blocks.

Pough led the Bobcats with 19 points, and Winceton Edwards scored 15. Malik Henry led JCJC with seven rebounds while David McCoy dished out four assists.

Co-Lin shot a hefty 51 percent (29-for-57) from the field, 52 percent (13-for-15) from the three-point line, and 67 percent (6-for-9) from the foul stripe. The Bobcats finished the night shooting 39 percent (23-for-59) from the field, 33 percent (10-for-30) from beyond the arc, and 100 percent (6-for-6) from the free throw line.
