Stellar shooting gives Co-Lin 112-77 win over Delgado

WESSON, Miss. - The Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College put on a shooting clinic Thursday night as the team shot 59 percent from the floor and 57 percent from three-point range on their way to a 112-77 victory over Delgado Community College. The win moves the Wolves to 4-5 overall and closes out the first half of the 2019-2020 season. Co-Lin is back in action on Monday, January 6 as the team plays host to CMP Prep in Mullen Gymnasium at 7 p.m.

"It was good to see everyone get out there and have some fun, definitely the highest shooting percentage we've had all season," said Co-Lin assistant coach Jake Reed. "One key to this win was our quick start, that is something we've been struggling with, and we've been working on that. Our guys have put in a lot work at practice this semester and it was great to see it come together here in the last game."

It was all Co-Lin from the start on Thursday as the Wolves ran out to a 12-point, 15-3, lead in the first five minutes of play. The Wolves pushed that lead all the way to nearly 20-points, 26-7, midway through the opening half with solid shooting from all parts of the floor. At the half, the Wolves led by 24, 52-28.

The second half was much of the same for Co-Lin as the Wolves' strong defense led to a strong offensive presence that was capitalized on with impressive shooting. The lead continued to grow throughout the game as Co-Lin won by 35-points, 112-77.

Every player on Co-Lin's roster found themselves in the scoring column with five players in Cameron Woodall, Demarcus Ellzey, JD Allen, Tyree Lomax, and Jay Burton all posting double-digits. Woodall led the team with 17 points, while Ellzey came off the bench and scored 12. Darius Kent led the Wolves with six rebounds, while Burton and Woodall's four assists led the team. Other notable stats include Lance Madison's four steals.

Jacoby Carter led Delgado with 19 points, while Tyler Harris added 18. AJ Bean led the Dolphins with 10 rebounds.

The Wolves shot 59 percent (39-of-66) from the floor, 57 percent (12-of-21) from three-point range, and 71 percent (22-of-31) from the free-throw line. The Dolphins shot 39 percent (28-of-71) from the floor, 22 percent (5-of-23) from downtown, and 80 percent (16-of-20) from the stripe. Co-Lin posted 18 steals to Delgado's two.
