Wolves Drop Road Contest to Lions

SCOOBA – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team returned to action with a road contest against East Mississippi in MACCC play. The Lions beat the Wolves by a final of 71-62.

The Wolve had an early lead in the first half as they jumped ahead of the Lions by a 7-2 margin. However, the Lions scored 10 unanswered points to take a 12-7 lead over the Wolves. The Lions and Wolves matched scoring totals for the remainder of the first half as they scored 13 points each, but the Wolves would trail the Lions, 25-20, as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The second half saw the Wolves take a 39-38 lead over the Lions with a 19-13 scoring run over the opening minutes of the half. However, the Lions answered with eight straight points to take a 47-39 lead and held off the Wolves come-from-behind attempt for the remainder of the game to secure the 71-62 win.

The Wolves were led by freshman forward Dylan Canoville (Plantation, Fla.) as he recorded his second straight double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds, which ties his career high mark for rebounds set last week against the Southwest Bears. Sophomore forward AJ Warnsley (Byram) had 17 points with five rebounds, one assist, and one steal while sophomore guard Jemario Hersey (Brookhaven) had 13 points with four rebounds and one assist.

Sophomore forward Kaeden Laws (Southaven) and sophomore guard Cowandric Samuel (Jackson) had five points each while freshman guard Anterrian Hawkins (Hollandale) had three points to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 7-4 overall, 1-1 in conference play, and will return to action with a home contest against Holmes on Tuesday, January 17. Tip-off between the Bulldogs and the Wolves is set for 6 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
