Wolves Overcome Halftime Deficit in Season Opening Win

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team hosted Baton Rouge for their season opener on Friday, November 3. The Wolves erased an eight-point halftime deficit en route to an 89-72 win over the Bears.

The Wolves and Bears went back and forth over the opening minutes of the game with the Wolves holding a 9-8 lead with less than 15 minutes of play left in the first half. The Bears then outscored the Wolves, 6-5, over the next few minutes to tie the game at 14-14 with less than ten minutes to play in the half. The Bears then outscored the Wolves, 11-8, to hold a 25-22 lead with just under five minutes remaining in the first half. The Bears then closed out the half with a 12-7 run to hold a 37-29 lead at halftime.

The Wolves had an offensive explosion in the opening minutes of the second half outscoring the Bears, 18-9, to take 47-46 lead with just under 15 minutes of play remaining in the second half. The Wolves then went on a 13-7 scoring run to increase their lead to 60-53 with just over ten minutes of play left in the game. The Wolves then closed out the game with a 29-19 scoring run to secure the 89-72 victory in the season opener.

Emmanuel James (Nigeria) led the way with a 22-point, 13-rebound double-double performance in his debut for the Wolves while Devin Carter (Edwards) tied for the team lead in points with 22 and added five assists to his night. Courterius Scott had a solid night for the Wolves with 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists while Avaughn Johnson (Jackson) narrowly missed a double-double performance with 13 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Dakota Hillard had a big performance off the bench with 16 points and six rebounds.

The Wolves are now 1-0 on the season and will return to action on the road against No. 11 Chipola on Saturday, November 4 at 6 p.m., in Marianna, Florida.
