Wolves Blitz Bulldogs

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team returned to action with their final home game before the winter break hosting Holmes on Monday, December 4. The Wolves led wire-to-wire en route to a 95-75 victory over the Bulldogs.

The Wolves opened the game on a 9-0 scoring run holding a lead by that margin with just under 17 minutes of play remaining in the first half. The Bulldogs responded with an 11-9 scoring run over the next few minutes, but the Wolves held the lead at 18-11 with 12:51 left to play. The Wolves responded with a 12-5 scoring run to increase their lead to 30-16 with 6:04 remaining. The Wolves then closed out the first half with a 17-11 scoring run to hold a 47-28 lead as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Wolves carried over the momentum into the second half with an opening scoring run of 11-5 growing the lead to 58-33 with 16:30 remaining. The Wolves then went on a 13-8 scoring run continuing to flex their muscles against the Bulldogs and growing the lead to 71-41 with 12:39 left to play. The two teams then match scoring outputs over the next few minutes as the lead still stood at 30 points, 86-56, with 5:57 remaining in the game. Despite the Bulldogs closing the game on a 19-9 scoring run, the Wolves never had less than a 20-point lead as they secured the 95-75 win.

Courterius Scott had a career night for the Wolves as he flirted with a near triple-double performance. The Jackson native led the Wolves in points with a career high 24, while adding a career high in rebounds with seven, and led the team in steals with eight.

Devin Carter (Edwards) and Ismail Rashid (Jackson) had 19 points each with Carter adding two rebounds and six assists while Rashid had a career high in points, he also had seven rebounds and two assists. Trevon Taylor (Jackson) had ten points off the bench for the Wolves and Emmanuel James (Nigeria) narrowly missed a double-double with eight points and a game-leading 11 rebounds.

Avauhgn Johnson (Jackson) had eight points with five rebounds and one assist. Antonio Oatis (Hattiesburg) had three points with Kaison Saunders (Olive Branch) and Will Grayson (Yazoo City) adding two points each to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin improves to 6-2 overall and will return to action on the road facing off against Northwest Florida State on Friday, December 8. Tip-off between the Wolves and the No. 5 Raiders is set for 7:30 p.m., in Niceville, FL.
