Wolves Trounce Rangers In Road Win

SENATOBIA – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team opened the second half of the season with a road contest against Northwest Mississippi on Thursday, January 11. The Wolves overcame a slow start to the contest en route to an 87-60 win over the Rangers.

"The guys did a great job of paying attention to the scouting report and rebounding the ball on both ends of the court," stated Co-Lin head coach David Sanders.

The Rangers scored the opening four points of the game to hold a 4-0 lead with 18:43 on the clock; however, the lead was short-lived as the Wolves scored tied the game at 4-4 and then took the lead, 6-4, with a layup by Courterius Scott (Jackson) at the 17:14 mark. The Wolves never relinquished the lead as they then went on an 11-5 scoring run to increase their lead to 17-9 with 14:12 left in the first half. The Wolves then went on a 14-12 scoring run increasing their lead to 41-31 with 6:13 left to play and then closed out the half outscoring the Rangers, 6-3, to hold a 47-34 lead at halftime.

The Wolves continued their show of force and dominance throughout the second half as they added 40 points to their lead while holding the Rangers to just 26 to earn the 87-60 victory.

The Wolves had four players hit double-digit scoring marks with two of those producing double-double performances as Devin Carter (Edwards) led all scorers with 19 points with three assists, two steals, and shared the team lead in assists with five. Emmanuel James (Nigeria) posted a double-double performance with 17 points and nine rebounds along with two steals while Courterius Scott had 16 points with three rebounds, two assists, and the shared team lead in assists with five. Avaughn Johnson (Jackson) had a double-double for the Wolves with 13 points and 13 rebounds paired with three assists and led the team in blocks with three.

"Courterius Scott and Devin Carter did what big time guards do," added Sanders. "I feel like we have the best backcourt in the conference with that duo and our team goes how they go."

Ismail Rashid (Jackson) had seven points with eight rebounds, Fred Gray, Jr., (Belzoni) had six points with three rebounds, and Dakota Hillard had four points with four rebounds. Jayden Jackson (Camden) and Corey Brown (Roxie) had two points each while Kaison Saunders (Olive Branch) had one point to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin improves to 7-4 overall and returns to action with a road contest against Hinds. Tip-off between the Wolves and the Bulldogs is set for 4 p.m., at Earl Joe Nelson Court at J.D. Boyd Gym in Utica.
