Wolves Outlast Bulldogs For Second Straight Win

UTICA – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team continued their second half opening road trip with a contest against Hinds on Saturday, January 13. The Wolves showed grit and determination in a back-and-forth contest beating the Bulldogs, 93-88.

This game was what a typical road game in conference play will be like for us going forward," stated Co-Lin head coach David Sanders. "Hinds defended their home court really well while we had some guys step up and make big plays for us. This game provided some much-needed experience for the upcoming conference schedule."

The first half saw the Wolves and Bulldogs trading baskets and leads with the Wolves ultimately holding a slim one-point lead, 42-41, at halftime. The second half saw the Bulldogs jump out in front of the Wolves with an early scoring run. However, the Wolves battled back to regain the lead and then had to fight off the Bulldogs down the stretch to secure the win including hitting clutch free throws late in the half taking the game, 93-88.

Devin Carter (Edwards) tied his career-high in points with 33, leading all scorers, along with seven rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Courterius Scott (Jackson) and Emmanuel James (Nigeria) added 19 points each with Scott adding two rebounds, one steal, and led all players in assists with seven while James posted a double-double with 11 rebounds which led all players along with one block.

Avaughn Johnson (Jackson) had eight points with four rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block while Will Grayson had seven points with two rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Ismail Rashid (Jackson) had five points and Dakota Hillard (Hazlehurst) had two points to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

"I thought Will Grayson was huge for us tonight. He came off the bench and made huge plays for us down the stretch," added Sanders. "Our conference is really tough, and it feels good to go and get a win against an opponent like Hinds in either conference or non-conference play."

Co-Lin is now 8-4 overall and will return to action on the road to open MACCC play against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Thursday, January 18. Tip-off between the Wolves and the Bulldogs is set for 7:30 p.m., at Dantzler Arena in Perkinston.
