Wolves Drop Overtime Contest Against Bears

SUMMIT – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team returned to conference action with a road contest against Southwest Mississippi on Thursday, January 26. The Wolves and Bears needed overtime to decide a winner as the Bears ultimately won the game 96-84.

The Wolves and Bears traded baskets and leads in the opening minutes of the first half with the Bears holding a 14-10 lead with 15 minutes of play remaining. The Bears then went on a 13-10 scoring to increase their lead to 27-20 with around eight minutes of play left in the first half. The Bears then closed out the half with a 14-13 scoring run to hold a 41-33 lead as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Wolves opened the second half with a 12-5 scoring run to cut the Bears lead down to 46-45 with just under 16 minutes of play left. The Wolves then went on a 16-9 scoring run to take the lead at 61-55 with under nine minutes of play remaining. However, the Bears responded outscoring the Wolves 20-14 over the final minutes while the Wolves had a game winning shot fall just short at the buzzer to end regulation tied, 75-75.

In the overtime period, the Bears outscored the Wolves, 21-9, to secure the 96-84 win.

Emmanuel James (Nigeria) led the way for the Wolves with a double-double performance including a new career-high in points with 25 along with ten rebounds and three steals. Courterius Scott (Jackson) had 19 points paired with six rebounds and a team-leading seven assists while Ismail Rashid (Jackson) had 16 points with seven rebounds.

Avaughn Johnson (Jackson) and Will Grayson (Yazoo City) had nine points each, Devin Carter (Edwards) had four points, and Dakota Hillard (Hazlehurst) had two points to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 10-5 overall, 2-1 in conference play and will return to action hosting East Mississippi on Thursday, February 1. Tip-off between the Lions and the Wolves is set for 7:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
