Wolves Comeback Falls Short Against Bobcats

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team returned to conference play with a home game against Jones. The Wolves had a furious second half comeback come up just short against the Bobcats in a 75-73 loss.

"Jones is a great team in our conference and when you play teams like that the margin of error is extremely slim," stated Co-Lin head coach David Sanders. "I think we played a decent game, but we left too many open shot opportunities out on the court. All credit to coach Mealer and his staff for coming on the road and doing what it takes to win a close game."

The Wolves got off to a fast start as they jumped out to a 9-0 lead over the Bobcats with just under 17 minutes left in the first half. The Bobcats then responded with a 12-3 scoring run to tie the game at 12-12 with 11:21 remaining in the first half. Both teams matched scoring outputs with 14 points each to keep the game tied at 26-26 with five minutes left to play. The Wolves closed out the first half with an 8-7 scoring run to hold a 34-33 lead as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Bobcats opened the second half with an 11-5 scoring run to take a 44-39 lead with just under 16 minutes of play remaining. The Bobcats then extended the lead with an 11-7 scoring run making the score 55-46 with 9:47 left in the game. The Wolves then used an 11-8 scoring run cutting the Bobcats lead down to 63-57 with just over five minutes to play. The Wolves then ended the game on a 16-12 scoring run, but the Bobcats held on as the final basket for the Wolves came with no time on the clock to give the final of 75-73.

Courterius Scott (Jackson) led all players with 21 points paired with five rebounds, four assists, and one steal while Avaughn Johnson (Jackson) finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, and one steal. Devin Carter (Edwards) had 15 points with six rebounds, three assists, and one steal while Emmanuel James (Nigeria) posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Antonio Oatis (Hattiesburg) had eight points to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 11-7 overall, 3-3 in conference play, and will return to action on the road against Mississippi Delta on Monday, February 12. Tip-off between the Wolves and Trojans is set for 7:30 p.m., at J.T. Hall Coliseum in Moorhead.
