Wolves Sink Buzzer Beating Three to Beat Trojans

MOORHEAD – The Co-Lin Wolves Men's Basketball team returned to MACCC play on the road against Mississippi Delta on Monday, February 12. The Wolves sunk a buzzer beating three pointer at the end of the game to beat the Trojans, 89-86.

The Wolves used an 8-4 scoring run to take an early lead by that margin with around 16 minutes left in the first half. The Trojans responded with a 17-8 scoring run to take a 21-16 lead over the Wolves close to ten minutes of play remaining. The Wolves then used a 15-10 scoring run to tie the game at 31-31 with 3:23 left to play. The Wolves then closed out the first half with a 7-1 scoring run to take a 38-32 lead as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Trojans opened the second half with a 10-4 scoring run to tie the game at 42-42 with 16:30 left to play. The Wolves then used an 18-17 scoring run to hold a 60-59 lead with just under ten minutes remaining in the half. The Wolves used a 9-6 scoring run to extend their lead to 69-65 with under five minutes to play in the game. The Trojans then used a 13-12 scoring run to cut the Wolves lead down to 81-78 with 1:11 left to play. The final minute of the game saw fast and frenzied action as the Trojans cut the Wolves lead down to 83-82 with 37 second left while the Wolves then grew the lead to 86-83 with just 15 seconds left. The Trojans then hit a three-point basket to tie the game with 5.2 seconds left on the clock, but the Wolves got the ball in to Courterius Scott (Jackson) who then went down the court and sunk a buzzer beating three as time expired to win the game, 89-86.

Devin Carter (Edwards) led the way for the Wolves with 23 points along with five assists while Avaughn Johnson (Jackson) and Emmanuel James (Nigeria) both narrowly missed double-doubles posting 19 points and seven rebounds each. Courterius Scott had 17 points with two assists.

Trevon Taylor (Jackson) had six points, Will Grayson (Yazoo City) had three points, and Kaison Saunders (Olive Branch) had two points to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 12-7 overall, 4-3 in conference play, and will return to action hosting Northeast Mississippi on Thursday, February 15. Tip-off between the Tigers and the Wolves is set for 7:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
