Wolves Falter Late Against Tigers

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team returned to MACCC play hosting Northeast Mississippi on Thursday, February 16. The Tigers used a late surge in the second half to upset the Wolves, 72-69.

The Wolves used an 8-6 scoring run in the opening minutes of the first half to hold a lead at that margin with 15:18 left on the clock. The Wolves then used an 11-8 scoring run to grow their lead to 19-14 with just under ten minutes of play remaining in the first half. The Wolves then had a 12-6 scoring run pushing their lead to double digits at 31-20 with 4:08 to go in the half. The Tigers then closed out the first half with a 14-6 scoring run to cut into the Wolves lead which stood at 37-34 as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Wolves used an early 8-6 scoring run to push their lead to 45-40 with 16:14 left on the clock in the second half. The Tigers responded with an 11-6 scoring run to tie the game at 51-51 with 10:17 remaining. The Wolves then used an 8-0 run to take a 59-51 lead with 8:27 left to play in the game. The Tigers once again responded with a 15-7 scoring run tying the game at 66-66 with just two minutes left in the game. The Tigers then outscored the Wolves, 6-3, over the final minutes as the Wolves missed a potential game-tying shot at the end of the game resulting in the 72-69 final.

Emmanuel James (Nigeria) led the Wolves with a double-double performance of 16 points and 11 rebounds while Will Grayson (Yazoo City) added 14 points with four rebounds. Courterius Scott (Jackson) had 13 points with five rebounds, and six assists with Devin Carter (Edwards) added 12 points with four rebounds.

Avaughn Johnson (Jackson) narrowly missed a double-double with with eight points and nine rebounds while Jayden Jackson (Camden), Trevon Taylor (Jackson), and Dakota Hillard (Hazlehurst) had two points apiece to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 12-8 overall, 4-4 in conference play, and will return to action on the road at Pearl River on Tuesday, February 20. Tip-off between the Wolves and the Wildcats is set for 7:30 p.m., at Marvin R. White Coliseum in Poplarville.
