Wolves Drop Game to Wildcats

POPLARVILLE – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team resumed MACCC play on the road against Pearl River on Tuesday, February 20. The Wildcats used strong defense to stall out the Wolves offense and get a 74-54 win.

The opening minutes of the game saw the teams trading baskets and leads as the score stood at 6-6 with 15:48 left on the clock. The Wildcats then went on an 18-11 scoring run to take a 24-17 lead with 11:08 remaining. The next two minutes of the game went scoreless until the Wildcats hit a field goal to break the scoring drought and push their lead to 26-17 at the 9:08 mark. The Wildcats then ended the first half on a 23-11 scoring run to push their lead to 49-28 as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

Despite an 8-4 scoring run over the opening minutes by the Wolves in the second half, the Wildcats continued to hold them off with a 52-36 lead with 15:06 left to play. The game once again featured another nearly two-minute scoreless drought as Emmanuel James (Nigeria) scored a field goal at the 13:20 mark to cut the lead down to 52-38. Both teams then matched scoring outputs adding 13 points each as the lead stood at 65-51 with 4:50 remaining. The Wildcats then outscored the Wolves, 9-3, down the stretch to seal the 74-54 win.

The Wolves had four players in double-digit scoring as Devin Carter (Edwards) led the way with 14 points while Courterius Scott (Jackson) and Dakota Hillard (Hazlehurst) had 12 points each. Emmanuel James posted a double-double performance with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Will Grayson (Yazoo City) had three points, Avaughn Johnson (Jackson) had two points, and Jamarion Smith (Magnolia) had one point to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 12-9 overall, 4-5 in conference play, and will return to action hosting Coahoma on Thursday, February 22. Tip-off between the Tigers and the Wolves is set for 7:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
