Wolves Cruise Past Bulldogs for Third Straight Win

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team returned to MACCC play hosting Hinds on Thursday, February 29. The Wolves used a big second half to run away from the Bulldogs en route to an 81-61 victory.

The Wolves opened the first half with an 8-7 scoring run to hold a lead over the Bulldogs at that margin with 14:22 left to play. The Bulldogs responded with a 17-10 run to take a 24-18 lead over the Wolves with 7:32 remaining in the first half. The Wolves responded by closing out the first half with a 13-6 scoring to hold a slim 31-30 lead over the Bulldogs as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Bulldogs opened the second half with a 12-9 scoring run to hold a 42-40 lead over the Wolves with 15:21 left on the clock. However, the Wolves responded with a 16-9 scoring run to take a 56-51 lead with 9:33 left to play. The Wolves never relinquished the lead to the Bulldogs as they then went on a 15-6 scoring run to push their lead to 71-57 with 4:33 left in the second half. The Wolves then closed out the game with a 10-4 scoring run to secure the 81-61 victory for their third straight in conference play.

Devin Carter (Edwards) led the way for the Wolves with a game-leading 26 points along with two rebounds and one assist while Courterius Scott (Jackson) had 16 points with four rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Ismail Rashid (Jackson) and Emmanuel James (Nigeria) had 15 points each while Rashid added three rebounds, two assists, and two steals with James adding eight rebounds, four steals, and one block to his game.

Avaughn Johnson (Jackson) had five points, five rebounds, and five assists while Antonio Oatis (Hattiesburg) and Dakota Hillard (Hazlehurst) had two points each to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 15-9 overall, 7-5 in conference play, and will hit the road for the final time in the regular season on Monday, March 4, to face off against Itawamba. Tip-off between the Wolves and the Indians is set for 7:30 p.m., at the Davis Events Center in Fulton.
