Wolves Season Ends in First Round of Region 23 Tournament

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team began postseason play by hosting Baton Rouge on Saturday, March 9. The Bears ended the Wolves season with a 70-65 win.

The Wolves and Bears traded baskets and leads in the opening minutes of the first half, but the game was tied at 9-9 with 14:58 left to play. The Wolves then went on a 12-6 scoring run to take a 21-15 lead over the Bears with 9:49 remaining in the first half. The Bears then went on a 10-8 scoring run to cut the Wolves lead down to 29-25 with 5:11 left on the clock. The Bears then closed out the first half with a 7-2 scoring run to take a 32-31 lead over the Wolves as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Bears carried the momentum over to the second half as they opened with an 12-9 scoring run to grow their lead to 44-40 with 14:47 left on the clock. The Wolves then used a 10-6 scoring run to tie the game at 50-50 with 9:24 remaining in the half. The Bears then closed out the game outscoring the Wolves, 20-15, including four made free throws down the stretch to secure the 70-65 win.

Courterius Scott (Jackson) led the Wolves offensively with a game-leading 23 points paired with two rebounds and one assist while Emmanuel James (Nigeria) posted a double-double performance with 14 points and 12 rebounds with Devin Carter (Edwards) adding 12 points with three assists and two steals.

Avaughn Johnson (Jackson) had six points, Ishmail Rashid (Jackson) had four points, while Jamarion Smith (Magnolia), Corey Brown (Roxie), and Dakota Hillard (Hazlehurst) had two points each to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin finishes the season 16-11 overall.
