Wolves Grab First Win of Season
MOORHEAD – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team hit the road for a game against Mississippi Delta on Tuesday, November 5. The Wolves picked up their first win of the season with a 78-61 win over the Trojans.
"This was a hard-fought win for our guys," stated Co-Lin head coach David Sanders. "Delta is a well-coached team, and they played us tough the whole night."
The Wolves started off the game with a strong showing in the first half as they jumped out to a big lead over the Trojans. Ultimately the Wolves held a 38-32 lead over the Trojans as they teams went into the locker rooms for halftime.
The Wolves continued to flex their muscles in the second half as they grew their lead against the Trojans. The Wolves outscored the Trojans, 40-29, en route to securing the 78-61 victory.
Deven Bates (Jackson) led the way for the Wolves offensively with 25 points along with six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Dakotah Hillard (Hazlehurst) had 12 points with five rebounds, Prince Ojukwu (Etobicoke, Ontario) had 11 points with seven rebounds, while Javian Watkins (Jackson) had ten points with six rebounds and led the team in assists and steals with six and three respectively.
Fred Gray, Jr., (Belzoni) had nine points, Chris Stephens, Jr., (Byram) had four points and a team-leading nine rebounds, while Dawson Knox (Brookhaven) and Antonio Oatis (Hattiesburg) had two points each to round out the scoring for the Wolves.
"I thought that Fred played well for us during this game," added Sanders. "I hope we can continue to find guys who will step up to help out our Dakotah, Deven, and Javian who continue to have stand-out performances for us."
Co-Lin is now 1-2 overall and will return to action on the road with a neutral site game against No. 10 Chipola College on Saturday, November 9. Tip-off between the Wolves and Indians is set for 6:30 p.m., on the campus of Gulf Coast State College in Panama City, FL.
