Wolves Win Home Opener

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team opened the home slate of the 2024-25 regular season hosting Baton Rouge Post Grad Academy on Monday, November 11. The Wolves dominated both end of the court en route to a 107-84 victory over the Aces.

The Wolves came out with a strong showing as they scored the first 13 points of the game to hold a 13-0 lead with 17:18 remaining in the first half. The Wolves continued to grow their lead as they went a 14-13 scoring run making the score, 27-13 with 11:58 left to play. The Wolves then used a 19-14 scoring run to push their lead over the Aces to 46-27 with 4:22 left on the clock. The Wolves then closed out the first half with a 14-11 scoring run to hold a 60-38 lead over the Aces as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Aces came out swinging to start the second half as they used a 13-8 scoring run to cut the Wolves lead down to 68-51 with 15:55 left to play. The Aces then used a quick 8-4 scoring run cutting the lead down to 72-59 with 12:39 remaining. However, the Wolves responded with an 18-6 scoring run to push their lead back to 90-65 with 7:11 left to play. The Aces outscored the Wolves, 19-17, down the stretch but the Wolves kept the Aces at an arm's length within the lead as they secured the 107-84 victory.

The Wolves were led offensively by Dakotah Hillard (Hazlehurst) who led all scorers with 24 points paired with seven rebounds. Deven Bates (Jackson) had 18 points with three rebounds, three assists, and one steal while Javian Watkins (Jackson) had 13 points with four rebounds, two steals, and a game-leading eight assists with Kesean Shields (Atoka, OK) having 12 points and eight rebounds.

Antonio Oatis (Hattiesburg) had nine points, Brick Nkugwa (Kampala, Uganda) had eight points, while Prince Ojukwu had six points with a game-leading nine rebounds. Corey Brown (Roxie) and Chris Stephens, Jr., (Byram) had four points each, Demarion Terry (Edwards) had three points while Jayden Jackson (Camden), Dawson Knox (Brookhaven), and Zach Thompson (Hattiesburg) had two points apiece to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin improves to 2-4 overall and returns to action hosting Delgado on Thursday, November 14. Tip-off between the Dolphins and the Wolves is set for 7:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
