WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team played their final game before the Christmas Break by hosting Hinds on Thursday, December 12. The Wolves led wire-to-wire as they steamrolled the Bulldogs, 74-46, for their seventh win in a row!
"This was a total team win," stated Co-Lin head coach David Sanders. "I thought this was our best game of the year defensively."
The Wolves opened the first half with a 10-2 scoring run to hold the lead at that margin with 16:02 left on the clock. The Bulldogs respond with a 7-4 scoring run to cut the Wolves lead down to 14-9 with 11:59 remaining in the first half. The Wolves responded with a 6-3 scoring run to push their lead to 20-12 with 4:50 left to play. The Wolves then closed out the first half with a 7-4 scoring run to extend their lead to 27-16 as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.
The Wolves opened the second half with an 11-7 scoring run to push their lead to 38-23 with 15:19 left to play. The Wolves then went an 18-9 scoring run extending their lead to 56-32 with 9:24 remaining. The Wolves then used a 7-6 scoring run to push their lead to 63-38 with 3:10 left in the game. The Wolves closed out the game with an 11-6 scoring run to secure the 74-46 victory.
Deven Bates (Jackson) led the way for the Wolves as he posted a double-double of 20 points and ten rebounds and led all players in both categories while Javian Watkins (Jackson) had 18 points with five assists and two steals.
"Deven and Javian carried us offensively in this game and we rebounded the ball well to get this win," added Sanders.
Antonio Oatis (Hattiesburg) and Keisean Shields (Atoka, OK) had eight points each while Dakotah Hillard (Hazlehurst) had seven points and Zach Thompson (Hattiesburg) had six points. Chris Stephens, Jr. (Byram) had four points with Prince Ojukwu (Etobicoke, Ontario), Corey Brown (Roxie), and Jayden Jackson (Camden) had one point each.
Co-Lin is now 8-4 overall and will return to action after the Christmas Break hosting Phillips on Thursday, January 9. Tip-off between the Ridge Runners and the Wolves is set for 7:30 p.m., in Mullen Gym.
