Wolves Drop Game Against Bulldogs in Overtime

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team resumed conference play hosting Holmes on Monday, January 27. The Wolves and Bulldogs needed overtime to decide a winner as the Bulldogs edged out the Wolves, 68-64.

Both teams came out firing in the opening minutes of the game trading baskets and leads but ultimately the Wolves held a lead, 8-6, with 15:35 left on the clock. The Wolves then used an 11-4 scoring run to push their lead to 19-10 with 9:27 remaining. The Wolves then went on an 8-7 scoring run to push their lead to 27-17 with 4:54 left to play. The Bulldogs then closed out the quarter with a 9-5 scoring run, but the Wolves held the lead at 32-26 as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Wolves came out with a strong showing to open the second half and used a 12-5 scoring run to push their lead to 44-31 with 15:15 left to play. The Bulldogs then responded with a 12-5 scoring run to cut the Wolves lead down to 49-43 with 9:43 left on the clock. The Bulldogs then used an 8-7 scoring run to cut the lead down to 56-51 with 4:50 remaining in the second half. The Bulldogs then used a 9-4 scoring run to tie game at 60-60 with five seconds remaining while the Wolves had an attempt at a game-winning shot at the final buzzer that was short sending the game into overtime.

In the overtime period, the Bulldogs outscored the Wolves, 8-4, to secure the 68-64 win.

Deven Bates (Jackson) posted a double-double as he led the Wolves in both points and rebounds with a game-leading 20 points and 10 rebounds (second-most amongst all players). Antonio Oatis (Hattiesburg) had 14 points with three rebounds, two assists, and one steal while Prince Ojukwu (Etobicoke, Ontario) had ten points with five rebounds, and one assist.

Keisean Shields (Atoka, OK) had eight points, Dakotah Hillard (Hazlehurst) had six points, while Jayden Jackson (Camden), Chris Stephens, Jr. (Byram), and Demarion Terry (Edwards) had two points apiece to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 8-8 overall, 0-4 in conference play, and will return to action on the road at Jones on Thursday, January 30. Tip-off between the Wolves and the Bobcats is set for 7:30 p.m., at A.B. Howard Gymnasium in Ellisville.
