WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team returned to MACCC play hosting Mississippi Delta on Monday, February 3. The Wolves used a second-half comeback to earn their first win in conference play, 69-65, over the Trojans.
Both teams came out firing on all cylinders and matched scoring totals with ten points each as the score stood at 10-10 15:09 left in the first half. The Trojans then went on an 11-4 scoring run to take 21-14 lead with 10:31 left on the clock. The Wolves responded with an 11-6 cutting the lead down to 27-25 with 4:22 remaining in the half. The Trojans closed out the half with a 6-5 scoring run to hold a 33-30 lead as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.
The Wolves started the second half with a 10-7 scoring run to tie the game at 40-40 16:11 remaining. The Wolves then went on a 14-9 scoring run to take a 54-49 lead with 9:36 left on the clock. The Trojans responded with a 14-9 scoring run of their own to tie the game at 63-63 with 4:53 left to play in the game. The Wolves then closed out the game with a 6-2 scoring run to secure the 69-65 victory.
Deven Bates (Jackson) flirted with a triple-double as he led all scorers with 19 points paired with nine assists and six rebounds while Prince Ojukwu (Etobicoke, Ontario) narrowly missed a double-double with 14 points and eight rebounds along with two assists and two steals. Dakotah Hillard (Hazlehurst) had ten points with two rebounds.
Javian Watkins (Jackson) had seven points while Jayden Jackson (Camden) and Dawson Knox (Brookhaven) had six points apiece. Antonio Oatis (Hattiesburg) had four points, Keisean Shields (Atoka, OK) had three points with Chris Stephens, Jr. (Byram) Brick Nkugwa (Kampala, Uganda) adding two points each to round out the scoring for the Wolves.
Co-Lin is now 9-9 overall, 1-5 in conference play, and will return on the road against Northeast Mississippi on Thursday, February 6. Tip-off between the Wolves and the Tigers is set for 7:30 p.m., at Bonner Arnold Coliseum in Booneville.
