WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team resumed conference play on Monday, February 10, by hosting Pearl River. The game was back-and-forth between the two teams, but ultimately the Wildcats got the win over the Wolves, 79-70.
The Wildcats used an 11-4 scoring run in the opening minutes of the first half to hold a lead by that margin with 15:13 left to play. The Wolves then responded with a 9-6 scoring run to cut the lead down to 17-13 with 10:53 remaining. The Wildcats then used a 13-11 scoring run to push their lead to 30-24 with 4:54 left on the clock. In the final minutes of the first half, the Wolves cut the lead down to two at 30-28, with just under four minutes left to play. Ultimately, the Wildcats added 13 more points to the lead while holding the Wolves to just three making the lead 43-31 when the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.
The Wolves opened the second half with a 12-2 scoring run to cut the lead down to 45-43 with 17:41 remaining. The Wolves then used a 9-5 scoring run to take a 52-50 lead with 13:06 left on the clock. The Wildcats responded with a 16-9 scoring run to retake the lead at 66-61 with 7:42 left to play. The Wildcats them closed out the game with a 13-9 scoring run while never relinquishing the lead to secure the 79-70 win.
Deven Bates (Jackson) led the way for the Wolves with 20 points paired with four rebounds, two assists, and one steal while Dakotah Hillard (Hazlehurst) had 17 points with six rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Keisean Shields (Atoka, OK) provided a spark off the bench with 11 points, three assists, and one steal.
Antonio Oatis (Hattiesburg) had six points, Javian Watkins (Jackson) had five points and Brick Nkugwa (Kampala, Uganda) had four points for the Wolves. Chris Stephens, Jr., (Byram) had three points while Jayden Jackson (Camden) and Jayden Rogers (Jackson) had two points each to round out the scoring for the Wolves.
Due to a forfeit by Coahoma for the upcoming game against the Wolves, Co-Lin is now 10-11, 2-7 in MACCC play, and their next game will be hosting East Central on Monday, February 17. Tip-off between the Warriors and Wolves is set for 7:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
