WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team celebrated Sophomore Night with their regular season finale as they hosted Gulf Coast on Monday, March 3. The Bulldogs beat the Wolves, 93-76.
The Bulldogs used a 12-7 scoring run over the opening minutes to hold a lead over the Wolves with 16:18 left to play. The Wolves responded with a 14-10 scoring run to cut the lead down to 22-21 with 11:41 remaining. The Wolves then used a 7-5 scoring run to hold a 28-27 lead over the Bulldogs with eight minutes left in the first half. The Bulldogs then responded with 13 unanswered points as they regained the lead at 40-28 with 3:17 left on the clock. The Bulldogs closed out the first half with a 6-1 scoring run to hold a 46-29 lead over the Wolves as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.
The Wolves opened the second half with a 10-8 scoring run to cut the Bulldogs lead to 54-39 with 16:35 remaining. The Wolves then used a 16-8 scoring run cutting the lead down to 62-55 with 11:55 left on the clock. The Bulldogs then used a 15-10 scoring run to push their lead to 77-65 with 5:55 left to play in the second half. The Bulldogs used an 8-7 scoring run to push their lead to 85-72 with 2:41 remaining in the game. The Bulldogs closed out the game with an 8-4 scoring run to seal the 93-76 win.
Deven Bates (Jackson) led the way for the Wolves offensively as he posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, the points tied for the game lead, along with three assists and three steals while Jayden Jackson (Camden) had 14 points with four assists and one steal with Keisean Shields (Atoka, OK) adding 12 points with six assists, three rebounds, and three steals.
Dakotah Hillard (Hazlehurts) and Dawson Knox (Brookhaven) had nine points each, Antonio Oatis (Hattiesburg) had five points, Prince Ojukwu (Etobicoke, Ontario) had four points, Javian Watkins (Jackson) had two points, and Brick Nkugwa (Kampala, Uganda had one point to round out the scoring for the Wolves.
Co-Lin finishes the season 11-15 overall, 3-11 in MACCC play.
